Irmo to play for Junior Little League softball championship. How to watch, TV info
The Irmo Junior Softball team is one win away from a Little League Junior Softball World Series championship.
Irmo, the champions of the tournament’s Southeast region, defeated the Philippines 6-4 on Friday. Irmo will play Michigan for the championship at 5 p.m. Saturday. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
Michigan defeated Las Vegas 9-8 in nine innings to win the other semifinal.
Irmo is the first team from South Carolina to make it to the Junior Little League World Series.
Irmo went 4-0 in Pool A play and defeated Czech Republic 11-5 on Thursday in the first game of the tournament’s single-elimination round.
Against the Philippines, Irmo scored three runs in the first inning and added two more in the fourth to lead 5-2. Irmo led 6-3 going into the bottom of the seventh. Philippines scored a run and had the winning run at the plate, but Stephaine Jones got a pop-out to end the threat.
Layla Peppers had two hits and three RBIs, and Jones added three hits to lead Irmo. Kathryn Hill added two hits and Eason Davis had two RBIs.
Jones pitched a complete game to pick up the win. She allowed four runs, walked two and struck out three.
Members of the team are Stephanie Jones (Ben Lippen), Layla Peppers (Dutch Fork), Haley Alderman (Dutch Fork), Olivia Hill (Dutch Fork), Eason Davis (Chapin), Allie Bickley (Chapin), Reagan Haggard (Chapin), Makenna Reimer (Irmo), Katie-Grace Hill (Dutch Fork) and Eve Smither (Ben Lippen). Coaches are Robert Peppers, Bryan Jones and Aaron Reimer.
Irmo is located about 20 minutes northwest of Columbia.
