Who’s in? Who’s out? Latest playoff picture for Midlands baseball, softball teams

The regular season is starting to wind down for high school baseball and softball teams.

Here is a look at where things stand with two weeks in the regular season for Midlands’ programs. Playoffs start May 2 for public school baseball teams and May 3 for softball. SC Independent Schools playoffs start May 1 for baseball and May 11 for softball.

Region records (in parentheses) are as of April 22.

Baseball

Region 3-5A: Blythewood (11-3) has clinched the region and has a game left with Spring Valley (1-13). Clover (10-5) has clinched second. Fort Mill (8-6) and Nation Ford (8-6) are tied for third. The two teams play Wednesday. Rock Hill (5-10) is fifth.

Region 4-5A: Lexington (7-2) leads the region with a week left. The Wildcats have a three-game series with fourth-place Dutch Fork (4-5). River Bluff (6-3) and Chapin (6-3) are tied for second and have a three-game series beginning Monday between two teams

Region 4-4A: North Augusta (6-2) has won the region. Airport (5-3) and South Aiken (5-3) are tied for second. Aiken (4-4) is fourth seed. Airport and SA play a tiebreaker game for second on Thursday at Batesburg-Leesville.

Region 5-4A: Lugoff-Elgin (7-1) leads the region and has two games left with Irmo (3-4). AC Flora (6-1) is in second and has two games with Ridge View (1-7) and one with Irmo (3-4). L-E holds the tiebreaker over ACF if the two teams finished tied. Richland Northeast (4-4) is fourth and Westwood (2-6) sixth.

Region 5-3A: Brookland-Cayce (10-0) is the region champion. Dreher (8-2) is second and Gilbert (6-4) is third. Swansea and Orangeburg-Wilkinson (3-7) are tied for fourth and will have a tiebreaker game this week.

Region 6-3A: Lake City (9-1) won the region. Camden (8-2) finished second, Marlboro County (6-4) third and Darlington (4-6) fourth.

Region 2-2A: Mid-Carolina (8-0) wins the region, Saluda (5-3) is second and Newberry (3-5) third. Abbeville and Ninety-Six are tied for fourth at 2-6. Abbeville and N-S will play a tiebreaker game this week.

Region 3-2A: Strom Thurmond (7-1) won the region. Pelion (5-3) was second. Fox Creek and Batesburg-Leesville tied for third but B-L wins the tiebreaker.

Region 4-2A: Gray Collegiate (8-0) has won the region title. Keenan (2-2) and Fairfield Central (2-2) are battling for second.

Region 5-2A: Andrew Jackson (8-0) is in first place with Buford (7-1) and Cheraw (5-3) behind them. Central (3-7) and North Central (3-7) are tied for fourth. Chesterfield (2-6) and York Prep (2-6) are tied for sixth.

SCISA Region 1-4A: Augusta Christian (8-0) wins the region. Hammond (5-3) is second. Cardinal Newman (5-3) is in third. Ben Lippen (2-6) is in fourth.

SCISA Class A: Richard Winn is unbeaten at 16-0 overall and is a favorite to win SCISA championship.

Softball

Region 3-5A: Clover (7-0) leads the region by two games over Blythewood (5-2) and holds the tiebreaker over the Bengals. Nation Ford (5-3) is third and Fort Mill (5-4) fourth. Spring Valley (2-7) is fifth.

Region 4-5A: Lexington (7-0) is the region champion. Chapin (4-2) is in second place. White Knoll (3-4) is in third with Dutch Fork (1-5) and River Bluff (1-5) tied for fourth. The two teams play on Tuesday.

Region 4-4A: North Augusta (5-0) leads the way over Midland Valley (5-1). The two teams play on Friday. Airport (3-4) is third with a game against NA next week. South Aiken (2-4) is fourth and Aiken (0-6) is fifth.

Region 5-4A: Lugoff-Elgin (6-1) is in first place with three region games left. Irmo (4-1) is in second place and AC Flora (4-2) is in third. Westwood (2-3) leads Ridge View (1-4) for the fourth spot and Richland Northeast (0-6) is sixth.

Region 5-3A: Gilbert (8-0) is in first place over Brookland-Cayce (6-0) and the two teams will play this week. Swansea (6-2) is third and has two games left with Brookland-Cayce left. Dreher (4-6) has wrapped up the fourth seed.

Region 6-3A: Marlboro County (9-0) wins the region. Camden (6-3) is in second place and Darlington (5-3) third. Crestwood (3-5) is fourth and Lake City (2-5) fifth.

Region 2-2A: Ninety-Six (5-3), Abbeville (4-2) and Mid-Carolina (4-1) are in the mix for first place. Saluda (4-3) is fourth.

Region 3-2A: Strom Thurmond (4-0) is in first and Fox Creek is in second. Pelion (2-2) is third while Silver Bluff (1-3) and Batesburg-Leesville (0-5) round things out.

Region 4-2A: Gray Collegiate has clinched the region championship.
