NC State lands quarterback commitment from South Carolina for 2025 class
Richland Northeast High School quarterback Will Wilson made his college choice months before the start of his junior season.
Wilson announced Saturday he is committed to N.C. State and coach Dave Doeren. He told the Wolfpack coaches on Friday of his choice before posting it on social media.
NC State was the first school to offer Wilson on Sept. 9.
“It was very important to them being first because they saw the potential in me first. That was very important because they believed in me and I felt it,” Wilson said Saturday evening. “The main thing was that I got to feel comfortable and build relationships. When you know, you know. So I felt it was time.”
Wilson also had offers from South Carolina, TCU, Virginia Tech, Duke, Penn State, Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State, James Madison and S.C. State.
Wilson attended camps at South Carolina, Duke, TCU, Clemson and N.C. State during the month of June.
Wilson is the first commit for NC State for Class of 2025 and second commit for the Wolfpack this weekend. Ronnie Royal of Gulf Shores High in Alabama committed for the Class of 2024 on Friday.
“It feels great to be the first Pack commit for 2025 because that means I set the tone for the whole recruiting class and I’m excited get after those guys,” Wilson said. “Just the atmosphere and culture there is what drew me to them. It’s a place I want to be a part of.”
The Wolfpack have five QBs on this year’s roster including senior grad transfer Brennan Armstrong. NC State has one QB committed for the 2024 class in Cedrick Bailey of Hollywood, Fla.
247Sports ranks Wilson as a three-star prospect and the 24th-best quarterback in the country for the Class of 2025. He is the fifth-ranked prospect in SC by 247Sports for his class.
The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Wilson has been a two-year starter at quarterback for his father, Walt, at Richland Northeast. Will Wilson threw for 1,797 yards and 14 touchdowns and also rushed for 705 yards and 14 scores last season.
