Cardinal Newman senior voted The State’s high school volleyball Player of the Week

.The votes have been tabulated and Cardinal Newman’s Jayden Johnson is the winner in The State’s Midlands high school volleyball Player of the Week for Sept. 4-9.

Thanks to everyone who voted for the poll. A new one will be out next week.

The nominees are listed below. Please note that these polls are not scientific and are meant to be just for fun.

Alyssa Bennett, Brookland-Cayce: The Bearcats had matches with Orangeburg-Wilkinson and Lower Richland last week. In the contest against the Diamond Hornets, Bennett recorded 14 kills.

Kristin Brown, Keenan: In matches with Great Falls and Irmo, the sophomore middle hitter recorded 17 aces, 15 kills, 22 digs and eight blocks.

Makensey McPherson, White Knoll: In a 3-0 sweep of Midland Valley, McPherson posted 11 digs and eight kills.

Sydney Fischer, Lexington: The junior setter for the Wildcats made the All-Tournament Team at the Hillcrest Tournament. Lexington finished second and Fischer had 152 assists, 58 digs, 14 kills, 13 blocks, and nine aces.

Shamiya Jefferson, Ben Lippen: The Falcons had eight matches last week and the freshman middle hitter came up big. She registered 32 kills. 24 blocks, five aces with a hitting percentage of .341.

Alexis Jodie, River Bluff: The sophomore setter had 83 assists, 34 digs and 10 kills as the Gators went 3-0 against Westwood, Wando and Summerville.

Jayden Johnson, Cardinal Newman: The senior setter played eight matches last week, including the Hillcrest tournament. Johnson recorded 101 assists and 56 digs as the Cardinals won the Hillcrest tournament.

Meredith McEnulty, Gilbert: In two matches last week, McEnulty had a 91% serving rate with six aces. She also added 23 assists and 11 kills in wins over Lower Richland and Swansea.
