Two Midlands teams will have a chance to wrestle for a state championship.
Gilbert and Lugoff-Elgin, two of the area’s most consistent programs over past five seasons, earned their spots in the title matches with wins on Wednesday night.
Gilbert defeated Dreher, 40-30, to win the Class 3A Lower State championship. The Indians will face West-Oak in the championship at Dreher High School on Saturday at noon. West-Oak defeated Chester, 40-31, and is going for third straight championship. Former Lexington coach Derek Strobel is the head coach at West-Oak. Current Gilbert coach Mitch Hudson was an assistant with Strobel at Lexington.
Gilbert is making its fourth title appearance in the last six years, the last coming in 2021. The Indians are looking for their first championship.
Lugoff-Elgin defeated James Island, 37-28, to win the 4A Lower State championship and will face Eastside at 3 p.m. Saturday for the second straight year. Eastside defeated Greenwood, 57-12, and is going for its ninth straight championship and state-record 19th state title.
Lugoff-Elgin is making its 12th championship appearance and looking for its first championship since 2010.

Class 2A: Chesnee vs. Buford 10 a.m.
Class 3A: Gilbert vs. West-Oak, noon
Class 4A: Eastside vs. Lugoff-Elgin, 3 p.m.
Class 5A: Fort Mill vs. Summerville, 5 p.m.

The state wrestling championships will be at Dreher High School located at 3319 Millwood Ave, Columbia, SC 29205.
Ticket information
All tickets are $15. Everyone must have a ticket unless they are a toddler or infant and can sit on someone’s lap. Tickets can be found at www.gofan.co beginning Feb. 8
