Meet The State’s Midlands all-area high school girls basketball team for 2023-24

A look at The State’s all-area girls basketball team from Midlands-area high schools for the 2023-24 season.

Top honors

The State’s Player of the Year: Joyce Edwards, Camden

Player of the Year (fan vote): Chase Thomas, Blythewood

All-area team

Jordyn Adams, Fairfield Central: The junior was Region 4-2A Player of the Year and an all-state selection. Adams averaged 24.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 5 steals per game.

Brea Boyd, Mid-Carolina: Sophomore was all-state selection and averaged 14.1 points and 4.8 steals per game.

Destiny Drakeford, Ridge View: Senior was all-region, Carolinas Classic selection and averaged nine points and eight rebounds a game.

Teonna Draughn, Cardinal Newman: Sophomore averaged 19.7 points, 4.4 assists and was SCISA all-region and North-South selection.

Joyce Edwards, Camden: The senior was Region 6-3A Player of Year, all-state selection McDonald’s All-American, picked for Jordan Brand Classic and helped the Bulldogs to a second-straight Class 3A championship. The South Carolina signee averaged 32.2 points, 13.9 rebounds, 4.6 steals, 4.0 assists and 3.4 blocks this season.

Michaela Fairwell, Dutch Fork: Region 4-5A Player of the Year and all-state selection averaged 17.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 6.6 steals and 3.1 assists in helping the Silver Foxes to their first region title since 2014.

Terriana Gray, AC Flora: The senior was Region 5-4A Player of Year and all-state selection in helping the Falcons to first state championship appearance in school history. The Alabama A&M signee averaged 17.3 points. 5.3 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 2.8 assists this season.

Reagan Haggard, Chapin: Sophomore was all-region selection and averaged 12.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 1.4 assists per game.

Anasia Harvey, Ridge View: Junior was all-region selection and averaged 11 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Chi’nya Isaac, Lower Richland: Region 5-3A Player of Year and all-state selection averaged 12.7 points, 4.2 assists and 3.1 steals per game. Junior was the first LR guard in 12 years to have more than 100 assists in a season.

Lauren Jacobs, Heathwood Hall: Junior averaged 31.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.2 steals and 2.1 assists in helping the Highlanders to second-straight SCISA Class 4A championship.

Samira Khalil, Hammond: Elon signee was all-region and SCISA North-South selection. Khalil averaged 19.2 points, four rebounds and 3.5 assists this season.

Taelor Lee Sutton, Keenan: Eighth-grader was all-region and averaged 14.3 points, 4.2 assists and 3.4 steals per game.

SaBreya Monsanto, Heathwood Hall: Junior was all-region, SCISA all-tournament selection and averaged 15 points, 10.7 rebounds, 4.5 steals and four assists in helping Heathwood to second straight state championship.

Mariana Moody, Spring Valley: Junior forward averaged 12.4 points. 10.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game this season.

Braylin Mungo, Camden: Freshman was all–state selection and averaged 12.8 points, 4.3 assists, 3.7 steals and 2.7 rebounds a game in helping Camden to its second straight state championship.

Ceddrianna Springs, Saluda: Eighth-grader averaged 16.6 points, 6.4 steals, 6.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.

Jhnai Sumter, Lower Richland: Sophomore was all-state selection and averaged 11.2 points, seven rebounds, 3.3 steals and 2.3 assists per game.

Chase Thomas, Blythewood: Sophomore was Region 3-5A Player of Year and all-state selection. Thomas averaged 19.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals this season.

Makiah Thompson, Westwood: Senior averaged 16 points, four assists, two steals per game and was all-state and North-South selection.

Destinee Tiller, Eau Claire: Junior was all-state selection and averaged 17.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.

Kadence Walker-Lee, Gray Collegiate: Junior averaged 14 points and nine rebounds in helping the War Eagles to the Class 2A Upper State championship game.
