Hammond linebacker voted Midlands high school football player of week

The votes are in, and Hammond linebacker Jackson Ross wins the vote for The State’s Midlands High School Football Player of the Week.

Thanks to all who voted. A new poll will be up on Monday afternoon.

The nominees are listed below. Please note that these polls are not scientific and are meant to be just for fun. Congrats to all the nominees.

This week’s nominees

Jonathan Clarkson, RB/LB, North Central: Senior rushed 16 times for 164 yards, two touchdowns, and had five tackles, forced two fumbles and recovered three fumbles in a win over Columbia.

Tylin Drakeford, WR/DB, Camden: Junior played 110 total snaps, had 154 all-purpose yards, threw a TD pass, ran for the game-winning touchdown and had a game-ending interception in a win over Hartsville. He also had seven tackles.

William Geddis, LB/TE, Swansea: Junior had eight tackles, caused two fumbles, had a quarterback pressure and blocked a punt in a win over Wagener-Salley. On offense, he graded out at 81% blocking as the Tigers rushed for 250 yards.

Devin Geronomi, DB/WR, White Knoll: Senior picked off two passes, forced a fumble, had six tackles and returned a punt for touchdown in a win over Brookland-Cayce.

Jar’kese Grant, RB, Lugoff-Elgin: Junior carried it 13 times for 210 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Darlington.

Erik Martinez, K, Fairfield Central: Senior was 7-of-7 on extra points and hit a 33-yard field goal in a win over CA Johnson.

Parker Murray, QB, River Bluff: Senior was 22-of-29 passing for 280 yards and five touchdown passes in a win over Nation Ford.

Hunter O’Neal, RB, Keenan: Sophomore carried it 14 times for 188 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Battery Creek.

Jaylen Reaves, DB, Blythewood: Senior picked off three passes in a win over Fort Mill.

Jackson Ross, DL/LB, Hammond: Sophomore had 17 tackles, two for loss and a sack in a win over Porter-Gaud.

Jaylin Simmons, RB, Lower Richland: Sophomore carried it 14 times for 179 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Colleton County.

Josh Smith, DE/LB, Dutch Fork: Senior Coastal Carolina commitment had 10 tackles, tackle for loss and a sack, forced fumble in a win over Ridge View.

Tanner Watkins, QB/K Batesburg-Leesville: Senior was 14-of-16 passing for 267 yards and three touchdowns in win over top-ranked Abbeville. Watkins also averaged 41 yards a punt, hit four PATs and a 26-yard field goal.

Amire White, RB, Irmo: Sophomore carried it 13 times for 101 yards and two touchdowns in the overtime win over Butler (NC).
