Threat of stormy weather altering high school football schedule for Midlands teams

With inclement weather in the forecast for Thursday and Friday from the effects of tropical weather, some Midlands high school football games are moving their games around this week.

Eight local games have been moved up to Wednesday and several others will be played on Saturday. Four games will be played on Monday

There will be a doubleheader at Bolden Stadium on Saturday with Columbia hosting Swansea at 11 a.m. and AC Flora playing York at 4:45 p.m. AC Flora’s game was moved because Memorial Stadium didn’t have power. Dreher also was supposed to play at Memorial Stadium but its game against Camden was moved to Benedict College at 11 a.m.

This is the second time in three weeks the threat of rain is moving scheduled games up.

A building tropical system Helene is forecast to make landfall as a hurricane on the western coast of Florida late Thursday. For the Columbia area, the National Weather Service predicts a 100% chance of rain for Thursday evening and a 60% Friday — mainly before 7 a.m.
