Brookland-Cayce quarterback voted The State’s high school football Player of the Week

The votes are in, and Brookland-Cayce quarterback Dre Dopson wins the vote for The State’s Midlands High School Football Player of the Week.

Thanks to all who voted. A new poll will be up on Monday afternoon.

The nominees are listed below. Please note that these polls are not scientific and are meant to be just for fun. Congrats to all the nominees.

Player of Week nominees

Jared Acosta, LB, Newberry: Senior had 14 tackles (two for loss) and a QB pressure in a win over Fox Creek.

Drew Arant, QB, Saluda: Senior has been out since opening week with a shoulder injury and returned against Pelion. Arant was 6-of-9 passing for 177 yards and a TD in the win over the Panthers.

Azel Banag, WR/DB, AC Flora: Junior had 10 tackles, forced fumble, fumble recovery, an interception and had a rushing TD in a win over Richland Northeast.

Caleb Ford, RB, Cardinal Newman: Senior carried it 32 times for 301 yards and two touchdowns in a loss to Laurence Manning.

TyDarion Grier, RB, Fairfield Central: Senior carried it 29 times for 248 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Chester.

Kinson Holland, RB, Hammond: Senior carries it eight times for 83 yards and three TDs in a win over Augusta Christian.

Jeremiah Knightner, RB/LB, CA Johnson: Sophomore carried it eight times for 106 yards, a TD and had nine tackles (four for loss) in a defeat to McBee.

Ryan Love, C, Irmo: Center graded out at 97 percent and helped the offensive line for the Yellow Jackets, who rushed for almost 400 yards in a win over River Bluff.

Colione Martin, RB, Chapin: Junior carried it 19 times for 134 yards and a TD and also four catches for 59 yards in a loss to Lexington.

Dre Dopson, QB, Brookland-Cayce: Junior threw four touchdown passes and ran for two in the Bearcats’ win over Aiken on Monday.

Elgin Sessions, DB, Dutch Fork: Senior had four tackles, a pass break-up and returned an interception for a touchdown in his second-straight game in the win over White Knoll.

Ty’trell Smith, DB, Gilbert: Senior had four tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery in a win over Midland Valley.

Darryl Spencer, DL, Ridge View: Senior had five tackles (four for loss), three sacks, one caused fumble and a blocked punt in a win over Lugoff-Elgin.

Desmond Washington, QB, Keenan: Senior was 20-of-27 passing for 389 yards, five touchdowns and also rushed nine times for 48 yards and two scores in a win over Silver Bluff.

Tyler Waller, QB, Gray Collegiate: Junior was 9-of-11 passing for 202 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for a TD in a win over Airport.

Amadre Wooden, RB, Batesburg-Leesville: Junior carried it 25 times for 209 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Ninety-Six.
