Playoff Rewind: Richard Winn earns state title. Gilbert, Camden win road thrillers

Richard Winn used a big first half on its way to the SCISA 8-man state championship on Friday night.

The Eagles scored 37 points in the first half and defeated Laurens Academy, 43-6, in a game held at WW King.

It’s Richard Winn’s fourth state title and first since 2014. The others came in 1995 and 1996. The Eagles finished 12-0 and scored 40 or more points in all but one game this season.

Quarterback Charlie Bonds threw two touchdowns and ran for two in the first half. The second half was played with a running clock. Bonds finished the season with 45 total touchdowns.

Bonds had TD runs of 4 and 9 yards in the first quarter. Josh Tyndall also had a 39-yard run to make it 20-0 after the first quarter.

Bonds finished with 155 yards passing and also rushed for 109.

In the second quarter Tyndall hit a 30-yard field goal. Bonds connected with Jake Galliard on a pair of touchdown passes. Galliard finished with five catches for 149 yards.

Eli Smith added a TD run in the second half for RW.

Dutch Fork 42, Boiling Springs 14

Maurice Anderson ran for two touchdowns and caught a TD pass as the Silver Foxes won their playoff opener.

Dutch Fork will host region foe River Bluff in the third round of the 5A Division I playoffs next week.

Anderson rushed for 82 yards and caught three passes for 65 yards. QB Ethan Offing was 10-of-19 passing for 153 yards and two scores. KJ Smith also caught a TD pass.

Jayden Westebrook also returned a punt for a score.

Irmo 38, Chapin 7

Quarterback AJ Brand ran for two touchdowns and threw a TD to Donovan Murph as the Yellow Jackets advanced in the 5A Division I playoffs.

Irmo hosts West Florence next week.

Brand was 8-of-13 passing for 115 yards and carried it 13 times for 133 yards.

Running back Amire White also had two touchdowns for Irmo. Murph had five catches for 79 yards.

Batesburg-Leesville 49, Andrew Jackson 14

Junior Amadre Wooden rushed for a school-record 334 yards and five touchdowns as the top-ranked Panthers advanced in the postseason.

B-L will travel to Clinton next week.

Wooden’s 334 yards broke Sherman Scott’s mark of 324 set in 1996. He now has 2,053 yards on the season and is just the fifth B-L running back to go over the 2,000-yard mark in a year.

QB Tanner Watkins threw for 41 yards but set the school’s all-time passing record with 3,275 yards. He already holds the career TD mark of 33.

River Bluff 34, Rock Hill 17

The Gators rallied from a 10-point deficit to advance in the Class 5A Division I playoffs on Thursday night.

River Bluff will travel to Dutch Fork next week. The Gators’ victory was a school-record 10th of the season.

Running back Hayden Myers rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns. QB Brayden Moore and Darius Cane each had TD runs for the Gators, who trailed 17-7 with 6:22 left in the second quarter.

The Gators rushed for 250 yards in the game.

South Carolina commitment Malik Clark had four catches for 69 yards and a touchdown for Rock Hill.

Camden 43, Wren 42

Jojo Crim blocked the game-winning 27-yard field attempt with 5.9 seconds left as the Bulldogs moved on in the 4A Upper State playoffs.

The Bulldogs travel to face defending state champion Westside next week.

Camden trailed 42-35 with 2:09 left, but Greyson Rimpf found Tylin Drakeford on a 53-yard pass and the Bulldogs were successful on a two-point try.

Wyatt Thompson had two touchdown passes and also ran for two scores. Navier Boykin also added a TD run for the Bulldogs to tie it up at 35-35 in the fourth quarter.

Ridge View 22, Cane Bay 15

Tre Howard threw two touchdown passes as the Blazers moved on in the Class 5A Division I Lower State playoffs.

Ridge View will go to Summerville next week.

Khristian Jackson and Darius Carter had touchdown catches for RV. Bradley Wilson added a TD run.

Keenan 38, Orangeburg-Wilkinson 7

The Raiders moved on to the third round of the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

Keenan will travel to Loris next week.

Desmond Washington threw four touchdown passes, three to Tyheim McNeil. Gary Gownes also had two rushing TDs for the Raiders.

Daniel 48, Richland Northeast 36

Kareem Shaw and Mickey Conn each rushed for more than 100 yards as the Lions defeated Richland Northeast in the 4A playoffs.

Conn scored on a 40-yard run to put Daniel up 48-36 with 4:12 left. He finished with 183 yards on just six carries. Shaw carried it 16 times for 138 yards.

Daniel QB Grayson Clary threw two TD passes and also ran for two scores.

RNE quarterback Will Wilson threw for 370 yards and rushed for 136 and accounted for five total TDs. Blake Betette caught nine passes for 178 yards and Isaiah Small had nine catches for 162 yards.

White Knoll 39, Myrtle Beach 14

Quarterback Landon Sharpe ran for two touchdowns and threw for another as the Timberwolves moved on in the 5A Division II playoffs.

White Knoll will go to Berkeley next week.

Sharpe was 14-of-22 for 246 yards and also rushed for 70. Javon Griffin had seven catches for 104 yards. Devin Geronimi had three catches for 81 yards and a score.

Tiyon Fanning rushed for 97 yards and a TD.

Gilbert 36, Bishop England 30

Jaylen Jay scored on a 3-yard run with 1:17 left as the Indians defeated the Bishops, 36-30, to move on in the 4A Lower State playoffs.

The Indians will travel to North Augusta next week.

Jay finished with 56 yards and two TDs. Trevon Williamson led Gilbert with 165 yards rushing and two scores.

Copper James threw for 246 yards and a TD to Chandler Guthrie, who hauled in eight catches for 162 yards and a TD.

Fairfield Central 41, Chesnee 6

Tydarion Grier rushed for three touchdowns as the Griffins advanced in the 2A Upper State playoffs.

Fairfield will face Central next week.

Jayden Boyd added an 80-yard TD run. Kaden Diggs threw a 39-yard pass to Ty’Darion Diggs.

Central 26, Saluda 15

Central scored twice in the fourth quarter to rally and defeat the Tigers in the 2A playoffs.

Tray Wilson had a 2-yard run to put Central up 20-15 with 11:34 left. Ashton Wilson added a 49-yard run to make it 26-15 with 7:46 left.

Drew Arant had two TD passes for Saluda.

Dillon 33, Newberry 28

Daniel Capeheart scored the go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter to help the Wildcats past the Bulldogs in the 3A playoffs.

Capehart’s run gave Dillon a 27-21 lead in the third quarter. Rahmond Hamilton then hit Ejan Green on a TD to make it 33-21 with seven minutes left.

QB Kenton Caldwell got Newberry within 33-28 with 2:51 left, but Dillon recovered the onside kick.

Caldwell finished with 256 yards passing and four total TDs.

Westside 49, AC Flora 9

South Carolina commit Cutter Woods threw four touchdowns and also rushed for a score as the top-ranked Rams eliminated the Falcons in the second round of the 4A Upper State playoffs.

Sharode Richardson had two rushing TDs for Westside.

Berkeley 36, Westwood 0

Henry Rivers threw three touchdowns as the Stags eliminated the Redhawks from the 5A Division II playoffs.
