Three Midlands squads capture competitive cheerleading championships

Chapin extended its record-setting championship total while Lexington and Gray Collegiate won competitive cheerleading championships on Saturday at Colonial Life Arena.

The Eagles won their 18th state championship by claiming the Class 5A Division II crown. It is their third title in the last four years. Chapin’s 18 titles are 11 more than Dutch Fork and Liberty’s seven titles.

Chapin finished with 331.5 points. St. James was a distant second at 306. Irmo was eighth.

Lexington won its third championship in the last five seasons as the Wildcats won the Class 5A Division I championship. The Wildcats were runner-ups the two times they haven’t won in the last five years.

Lexington finished with 331 points, four ahead of rival River Bluff. Blythewood was third at 303. 5. Dutch Fork was sixth at 275.

Gray Collegiate ran its championship streak to three by winning the Class 4A championship. It is the War Eagles’ first year they are in Class 4A. The other two championships were in Class 2A.

The War Eagles finished with 287.5 points. AC Flora was second with 277.5. Gilbert was fifth at 252.

Chesnee won the 3A championship with 278 points. Mid-Carolina was third with 254.5.
