Dutch Fork sophomore voted The State’s high school Boys Basketball Player of Week

The votes are in, and Dutch Fork’s Samajae Govan won the vote for The State’s Midlands High School Boys Basketball Player of the Week.

Thanks to all who voted. A new poll will be up on Monday afternoon.

The nominees are listed below. Please note that these polls are not scientific and are meant to be just for fun. Congrats to all the nominees.

Coaches can send nominations each week to lbezjak@thestate.com by 1 p.m. on Mondays.

Boys Basketball Nominees

Jaydon Bradford, Chapin: Senior forward had 14 points, five rebounds and two assists in the Eagles’ lone game last week.

LJ Britt, Gray Collegiate: Senior averaged 15.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 2.6 steals in the War Eagles’ three wins last week.

Malachi Cooper, Ridge View: Senior hit seven 3-pointers and scored 26 points, four rebounds and three assists in the Blazers’ lone game, a win over Lugoff-Elgin last week.

Braylen Davis, Batesburg-Leesville: Sophomore guard averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, two assists and two steals in Panthers’ two games last week.

AJ Edwards, Brookland-Cayce: Senior averaged 16.7 points in the Bearcats’ three games last week.

Samajae Govan, Dutch Fork: Sophomore guard had 21 points, five rebounds and three assists in the Silver Foxes’ lone game, a win over Irmo.

Jackson Ross, Hammond: Sophomore averaged 24.3 points, including a career-high 37 against Northside Christian, to go along with 9.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists in the Skyhawks’ three games last week.

Brian Sumpter, Keenan: Senior and Wofford signee averaged 19 points in the Raiders’ three victories last week.
