A.C. Flora names new athletics director
Eddie Moore has been named the athletics director at A.C. Flora High, replacing Charlie Wentzky, who left in June to become the assistant commissioner with the South Carolina High School League.
Moore most recently was head football coach at Barnwell High, his alma mater. He also had coaching stints at Greenwood, Berkeley and Opelika High.
Moore was selected from a candidate pool of more than 60 applicants.
“Moore has a wealth of leadership experience,” A.C. Flora principal Richard McClure said. “he’s had the opportunity to work with some legendary coaches and athletic directors. You can tell from his educational backgroud, he puts a lot of emphasis on the class room, which is very important to us here.”
Wentzky was the Region 4-3A athletics director the past two seasons. A.C. Flora has been named The State newspaper’s high school athletics program of the year the past two years.
Moore is excited to take over the highly successful programs.
“It’s great not to have to reinvent the wheel here. Things are moving in the right direction,” Moore said. “Coach Wentzky has done a great job in getting us where we are, and we have great head coaches in place. We’re looking to take that next step. There are some facility concerns to improve on. We should have the best.”
Richland One has named Bob Matz as the district’s athletics director. Matz was the AD at Lower Richland the past three years.
Jason Bush has been named football coach at Columbia High. Bush replaces Willie Offord, who left last month to take an assistant coaching position at Newberry College.
