Cardinal Newman sophomore voted The State’s high school Boys Basketball Player of Week

The votes are in, and Cardinal Newman sophomore Luis Echevarria won the vote for The State’s Midlands High School Boys Basketball Player of the Week.

Thanks to all who voted. A new poll will be up on Monday afternoon.

The nominees are listed below. Please note that these polls are not scientific and are meant to be just for fun. Congrats to all the nominees.

Coaches can send nominations each week to lbezjak@thestate.com by 1 p.m. on Mondays.

Boys Basketball Nominees

LJ Britt, Gray Collegiate: Senior averaged 13 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and 3.3 steals in three wins for the War Eagles.

Collin Davis, Richard Winn: Senior averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and two assists in the Eagles’ two games last week.

Luis Echevarria, Cardinal Newman: Sophomore averaged 27 points, 7.3 rebounds, three assists and 2.7 steals in the Cardinals’ three games last week.

Caleb Garner, Dutch Fork: Junior averaged 14 points, seven rebounds and shot 65% from the field in the Silver Foxes’ two wins last week.

Reggie Mack, Ridge View: Senior averaged eight assists, three rebounds and two steals in three wins for top-ranked Blazers.

Tristen McCleary, Heathwood Hall: Senior averaged 21.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and shot 71.4 percent from the field in the Highlanders’ three games last week.

Tony Odom, CA Johnson: Junior scored 21 points in a win over Lamar on Friday.

Tyson Ray, Chapin: Senior averaged 13 points, six assists and four rebounds in the Eagles’ two games last week.
