The Dutch Fork basketball team felt like it let one get away in its first matchup with River Bluff earlier this season.

On Tuesday, that wasn’t the case as the Silver Foxes dominated for much of the game in the 63-50 win over the Gators.

With the win, Dutch Fork and River Bluff are tied in Region 5-5A standings with one regular season game left Thursday.

Dutch Fork goes to Irmo next, while River Bluff faces Lexington. If both teams win their matchups, they will play a tiebreaker game at 7 p.m. on Friday at Irmo High School to decide the top seed in the region. The No. 1 seed is guaranteed a bye in the first round of the playoffs, which start next week.

“Playing at home, we were ready,” Dutch Fork coach Bret Jones said. “A little revenge on our side. We knew how big this one was so we could get the rematch on Friday.”

River Bluff defeated Dutch Fork, 49-48 on Jan. 28, thanks to a Cooper Jones’ banked 3-pointer with 2.6 seconds left. The Silver Foxes had several chances to take control in that matchup but didn’t.

In the rematch, the game was tied briefly in the first quarter before Dutch Fork took control. The Silver Foxes shot well from the outside in the first half, hitting five 3-pointers.

Senior Bryson Taylor led Dutch Fork with 17 points. Justus Bell added 15, and Samajae Govan had 12. The trio scored 17 of Dutch Fork’s 20 points in the third quarter.

Dutch Fork led by as many as 22 points in the second half.

“We should have had that game last time, but this time we paid attention to detail,” Taylor said. “We were just ready to go.”

Yasir Cromer led the Gators with 21 points. The loss snapped River Bluff’s 13-game winning streak.

River Bluff played without starting forward Blake Wilson, who suffered an injury last week against Irmo and hasn’t been cleared yet to return.

Michaela Fairwell scored 20 points in her final regular-season home game as the Silver Foxes stayed in first place in the region.

Dutch Fork can win the region title outright on Thursday against Irmo.
