After dropping its first region game in more than a year six days ago, the Ridge View girls bounced back on Friday night.

The Blazers knocked off No. 2 Blythewood, 55-47, in the regular-season finale for both teams.

With the win Ridge View finishes in a tie with Blythewood for first place in the Region 5-5A standings. But the Bengals won the tiebreaker because of the margin of victory across the two games between the two teams.

Blythewood defeated Ridge View, 59-46, on Saturday to hand the Blazers their first region loss since 2023.

But the Blazers used a strong second half in the win. Ridge View will be the No. 5 seed in 5A Division I Lower State bracket. The playoff pairings will be officially released on Saturday.

“To lose like that and lose in that fashion, you can tell we were kind of shook,” RV coach Terrence Gibson said. “But it is a testament to the young ladies for coming to practice every day, working hard and moving past the moment.”

Anasia Harvey, Janiya Carter and Zaria Willingham each had 12 points to lead RV.

Ridge View used a fourth-quarter run to put the game away. The Blazers went on a 12-5 run, capped off by Samira Smith’s 3-pointer that gave them a 52-45 lead.

The loss is only Blythewood’s second of the season. The Bengals lost to Dutch Fork in December and shared a region title for the first time since 2008. Blythewood is No. 2 seed and will have a first-round bye in the 5A Division I Upper State bracket.

Sharon Walters led the Bengals with 13 points, and India Williams had 12. Chase Thomas, the Bengals’ leading scorer, was held to 11 points and was in foul trouble much of the first half.

Korie Corbett scored 16 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter as the top-ranked Blazers swept the season series from the Bengals.

Ridge View should be the No. 1 seed in 5A Division I Lower State bracket and have home-court advantage until the state semifinals in Florence.

Corbett scored 10 straight points at one point in the fourth quarter, including a slam dunk that brought the crowd, which included Memphis Grizzlies forward and RV grad GG Jackson, to its feet.

“That is his makeup,” Ridge View coach Joshua Staley said of Corbett. “Korie can take over any time he wants. We kind of get on him every day to make sure he is competing in practice on a high level. He got some fouls and wasn’t able to stay on the floor in the first half, so we thought he did a really good job in the second half.”

Yale Davis added 16 points and RJ Davis had 11 for the Blazers, who haven’t lost to an in-state opponent this season.

Terrion Mack and Tyler Stephens each had 14 points to lead Blythewood. TJ Lewis, the team’s leading scorer, added 11 points but was held to two points in the second half.

The Bengals are No. 3 seed and will get a first-round bye in the 5A Division I Upper State bracket.
