HS Basketball: Hammond, Heathwood Hall in SCISA semifinals. Gray survives upset bid

The South Carolina High School Basketball playoffs tipped off Monday night while the SC Independent Schools Association playoffs were in the second round.

Here are Monday’s highlights for Midland area teams.

Boys Basketball Scores

Class 5A Division I

Sumter 59, Spring Valley 46: BJ Brown scored 33 points as the Gamecocks knocked off the Vikings.

Mauldin 71, Lexington 44

Class 4A

AC Flora 57, Fountain Inn 30: Robert Johnson scored 24 points and Will Willard had 14 in the Falcons’ opening round win. AC Flora will go to top-seeded Lancaster for the second round.

Dreher 54, Blue Ridge 35: James Singleton had 19 points and Jordan Brown had 11 as the Blue Devils won on the road. Dreher heads to Greer in the second round.

Gray Collegiate 49. Aiken 41: Hunter McGraw had 11 points while LJ Britt and Levi Ball each had nine as War Eagles survived a scare from region foe Aiken. Gray trailed 35-32 in the fourth before outscoring Aiken 14-9 in the final 2:44.

The War Eagles will host May River in the second round.

Brookland-Cayce 73, Midland Valley 62: Isaiah Oree scored 22 points as the Bearcats defeated region foe Midland Valley for the third time this year. Carter Jackson had 13 points while AJ Edwards had 12 and Isaiah Daniels had 10.

B-C goes to Crestwood in round two for a rematch of last year’s playoffs.

Wren 92, Camden 66: Abijah Franklin scored 35 points and Brock Cherry had 26 in Wren’s win.

Class A

CA Johnson 74, Calhoun County 58: Milton McCray scored 25 points as the Green Hornets won their first-round game.

Aiassic Germany had 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, and Tony Odom scored 12 points. CAJ goes to McCormick for the second round.

SCISA 4A

Hammond 60, Ben Lippen 41: Mekhi Smith-Brown scored 19 and Jaiden Haltwianger 13 as the Skyhawks defeated the Falcons in the second round of the SCISA 4A boys playoffs. It was Hammond’s third win over Ben Lippen this season.

The Skyhawks will play Porter-Gaud in the semifinals on Wednesday.

Braysen Stockman led BL with 30 points.

Porter-Gaud 64, Heathwood Hall 51: Banks Butler scored 20 and John Michael Jenkins had 19 as the Cyclones used strong outside shooting to end the Highlanders’ season.

Kamauri Hunter led Heathwood with 15 and Tristen McCleary had 14. Nic Nichols added 10.

Augusta Christian 94, Northside Christian 69

Girls Basketball Scores

Class 5A Division II

Chapin 48, St. James 41

Lucy Beckham 53, Irmo 42

Westwood 51, Conway 14: Aneya Britt scored 13 points and Amari Alexander added 10 as the Redhawks moved on in the playoffs. Westwood is at White Knoll on Thursday.

Class 3A

Keenan 62, Aynor 18

Newberry 57, North Charleston 27

Class 2A

Mid-Carolina 29, Saluda 23: Brayden Brooks and Katie Gallman each had eight points as the Rebels upset region champion Saluda in the first round of the playoffs.

Fairfield Central 37, Strom Thurmond 28

Eau Claire 47, Ninety-Six 21: Milaysha Chisholm scored 15 points while Destinee Tiller had 13 and Syteria Bethel 10 in the Shamrocks’ win.

Landrum 54, American Leadership 31

SCISA 4A

Heathwood Hall 62, Porter-Gaud 22: Ole Miss signee Lauren Jacobs led four players in double figures with 21 points as the Highlanders moved on to the semifinals of the SCISA 4A tournament. Heathwood will play First Baptist on Wednesday at the Sumter Civic Center.

Eighth grader Dakota Jenkins had 12 points. Camillea Gore 11 and SaBreya Monsanto each had 10.

Trinity Collegiate 53, Ben Lippen 42

Northwood 61, Northside Christian 35
