Saluda second baseman voted The State’s high school Girls Spring Sports Athlete of Week
The votes are in, and Saluda second baseman Ava Martin won the vote for The State’s Midlands High School Girls Spring Sports Athlete of the Week.
There will be a weekly poll throughout the rest of the spring sports regular season. Coaches can nominate their athlete by emailing Lou Bezjak at lbezjak@thestate.com by 1 p.m. Mondays.
Girls Player of Week Nominees
Kaylan Boudreau, Gray Collegiate softball: Boudreau was 6-for-10 with five RBIs in the War Eagles’ three wins last week.
Lila Bowers, Chapin soccer: Junior had two goals and three assists in the Eagles’ three wins last week.
Sam Craig, Lexington softball: Senior shortstop was 13-for-15 with five doubles and 8 RBIs in six games last week for the Wildcats.
Eason Davis, Chapin softball: Davis went 4-for-7 with a homer and 6 RBIs in the Eagles’ two wins last week.
Nikki Gallardo, White Knoll softball: Senior shortstop went 9-for-17 with four doubles and 8 RBIs for the Timberwolves last week.
Ava Martin, Saluda softball: Junior second baseball was 7-for-12 with three home runs and 11 RBIs last week.
Mackenzie Melton, North Central softball: Melton went 2-1 as a pitcher with 41 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched. At the plate, she was 7-for-14 with two RBIs.
Whitney Rogers, Gilbert softball: Sophomore hit .400 with two stolen bases, three runs scored in the Indians’ two wins last week.
Kendall Scott, Columbia soccer: Freshman midfielder had seven goals and an assist in two matches against Fairfield Central.
Lily Sundell, Lexington lacrosse: Junior had five goals and two assists in a 17-6 win over defending state champion Chapin.
Lilly Zell, Blythewood softball: Junior pitcher went 2-0 with 16 strikeouts and a 2.33 ERA last week. She also was 3-for-5 at the plate.
