Airport pitcher voted The State’s high school Boys Spring Sports Athlete of Week

The votes are in, and Airport senior pitcher Hunter Epps won the vote for The State’s Midlands High School Boys Spring Sports Athlete of the Week.

There will be a weekly poll throughout the rest of the spring sports regular season. Coaches can nominate their athlete by emailing Lou Bezjak at lbezjak@thestate.com by 1 p.m. Mondays.

Boys Player of Week Nominees

Banks Alexander, River Bluff baseball: Freshman went 6-for-12 with a home run, 6 RBIs and two stolen bases. His home run was a walk-off HR against Irmo, and he had the game-winning hit in a 1-0 win over Mid-Carolina.

Charlie Bonds, Richard Winn baseball: Francis Marion signee went 4-for-6 with two homers and 9 RBIs in Eagles’ two wins last week.

Ashton Brazell, North Central baseball: The senior pitcher/outfielder went 4-for-6 with 3 RBIs, three stolen bases. On the mound, he pitched five scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out 12 in a win over York Prep.

Andres Campo, Gray Collegiate soccer: Junior midfielder had a goal and an assist in each of wins over Aiken and South Aiken.

Grayson Crim, Northside Christian baseball: Senior pitcher/infielder went 4-for-7 with a homer, 7 RBIs, five runs and a stolen base. Crim also pitched two scoreless innings, picked up a save and struck out four.

Graeme Douglas, Fairfield Central baseball: Senior P/C went 3-for-3 with two homers, 6 RBIs and six runs scored for the Griffins last week.

Hunter Epps, Airport baseball: Senior pitcher tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts in the 1-0 win over North Augusta.

Caiden McGuff, Camden baseball: Sophomore pitched a complete-game against South Pointe, allowing five hits, two runs while striking out nine.

Boone Miller, Dutch Fork baseball: Senior tossed a complete-game four-hitter with five strikeouts in a 2-0 win over White Knoll.

Wyatt Moore, Dutch Fork soccer: Freshman midfielder had two goals and an assist in a win over Irmo.

Brayden Studebaker, Lexington baseball: Studebaker threw a complete-game, five-hit shutout in the 1-0 win over Chapin.
