Dutch Fork senior voted The State’s high school Boys Spring Sports Athlete of Week

The votes are in, and Dutch Fork’s Candler Morden won the vote for The State’s Midlands High School Boys Spring Sports Athlete of the Week.

There will be a weekly poll throughout the rest of the spring sports regular season. Coaches can nominate their athlete by emailing Lou Bezjak at lbezjak@thestate.com by 1 p.m. Mondays.

Boys Player of Week Nominees

Rohan Bremmer, AC Flora baseball: Sophomore went 4-for-8 with four RBI including a walk-off hit in the 9-8 win over Lugoff-Elgin on Saturday.

Johnny Collins, Blythewood baseball: Junior pitched six shutout innings of one-hit ball with six strikeouts in a 10-0 win over West Florence on Tuesday. Collins also was 5-for-7 at the plate with four RBI in the Bengals’ two victories.

Wyatt Hightower, Chapin golf: Senior shot a 1-under 70 to win the Lexington County Golf Championship.

Malachi Merkovsky, Chapin lacrosse: Junior had nine goals and four assists in the Eagles’ two wins last week.

Drew McCall, Hammond lacrosse: Senior had 10 goals and four assists in the Skyhawks’ two wins last week.

Mason Mills, Newberry baseball: Sophomore pitched a complete-game victory against rival Mid-Carolina, allowing an unearned run and three hits. At the plate, Mills was 3-for-6 with five RBIs and two stolen bases.

Ethan Moody, Richland Northeast track & field: Moody won the 110 hurdles (14.09) and 400 hurdles (53.84) at the Blazer Twilight Invitational on Friday night.

Candler Morden, Dutch Fork baseball: Senior picked up the win against Lexington, allowing one earned run and striking out 11. He also was 1-for-4 with three RBI.

Mason O’Cain, Ben Lippen baseball: Senior was 4-for-6 with three RBI as the Eagles won all three games last week.

Matthew Pinasco, Hammond soccer: Pinasco scored two goals and had three assists last week for the Skyhawks.

Gaines Roberts, Irmo soccer: Roberts had the game-winning assist in the victory over River Bluff.

Dalton Taylor, Gilbert baseball: Senior tossed a four-hit, complete-game with six strikeouts in 4-0 win over Airport. At the plate, he went 4-for-9 with two RBIs in three games.

Josh Uhlar, Saluda baseball: Senior pitcher/second baseman hit .714 with six RBIs and three stolen bases. Uhlar pitched a complete game against Ninety-Six, striking out nine and allowing two runs.

Eli Vance, Chapin soccer: Junior striker had the go-ahead goal against Dutch Fork and game-tying goal against Lexington. The Eagles went on to defeat the Wildcats in penalty kicks.

Jasper Westfall, Cardinal Newman soccer: Junior midfielder had four goals and two assists in the Cards’ wins over Hammond and Ben Lippen.
