Lexington senior voted The State’s high school Girls Spring Sports Athlete of Week
The votes are in, and Lexington’s Payton Melinauskas won the vote for The State’s Midlands High School Girls Spring Sports Athlete of the Week.
There will be a weekly poll throughout the rest of the spring sports regular season. Coaches can nominate their athlete by emailing Lou Bezjak at lbezjak@thestate.com by 1 p.m. Mondays.
Girls Player of Week Nominees
Ashlyn Blackstone, White Knoll softball: Senior first baseman went 4-for-6 with five RBIs last week for the Wolves.
Aspen Boulware, Gray Collegiate softball: Sophomore went 3-for-6 with three home runs and seven RBIs in the War Eagles’ three victories.
Makenzie Brown, Gilbert softball: Brown was 6-for-8 with three RBIs in region wins over Airport and North Augusta.
Hailey Jimenez Cortez, Brookland-Cayce girls soccer: Cortez scored nine goals and had three assists in three matches against Midland Valley, Gray Collegiate and Manning.
Saniya Flemming, Richland Northeast softball: Senior outfielder was 6-for-6 with a triple and six RBIs for the Cavaliers last week.
Mia Hendry, Blythewood soccer: Junior midfielder had three goals and six assists in two blowout victories.
Payton Melinauskas, Lexington softball: Senior centerfielder was 6-for-8 with three triples and two RBIs last week.
Savanna Padgett, Pelion softball: Padgett was 4-for-8 with a home run and six RBIs in two games last week. One of Padgett’s hits was a two-run, walk-off homer in a 6-5 win over Strom Thurmond.
Ava Sapp, Hammond softball: Junior pitcher went 2-0 last week with 17 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched.
