Ben Lippen senior voted The State’s Boys Spring Sports Athlete of Week

The votes are in, and Ben Lippen’s David McElveen won the vote for The State’s Midlands High School Boys Spring Sports Athlete of the Week.

There will be a weekly poll throughout the rest of the spring sports regular season except for next because of spring break. Coaches can nominate their athlete by emailing Lou Bezjak at lbezjak@thestate.com by 1 p.m. Mondays.

Boys Player of Week Nominees

Thomas Bishop, Camden baseball: Junior was 8-for-10 with a grand slam, three doubles, four stolen bases and 8 RBIs at the plate. On the mound, he pitched a complete game, allowed one earned run and had five strikeouts.

Grant Kissner, Lexington baseball: Kissner picked up the win over River Bluff, allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out eight. At the plate, he was 4-for-8 with an RBI in three games last week.

Macon Leppert, Blythewood baseball: Senior catcher was 5-for-6 with two home runs and three RBIs in two Bengals wins.

David McElveen, Ben Lippen baseball: Senior went 4-for-6 with a home run and 3 RBIs in a pair of wins over Hammond last week.

Noah Mitchell, Gray Collegiate soccer: Senior had two goals and three assists in a two wins over Gilbert.

Wyatt Moore, Dutch Fork soccer: Freshman had a pair of goals in a 2-0 win over Irmo.

Matthew Pinasco, Hammond soccer: Pinasco recorded a combined five goals and five assists in matches against Augusta Christian and Ben Lippen.

Aden Price, Brookland-Cayce track & field: Price won the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter events at the Lexington County Track and Field Championships meet.

Will Spotts, Northside Christian baseball: Sophomore catcher was 4-for-6 with a grand slam, two doubles, five RBIs and two stolen bases against Augusta Christian.

Tanner Watkins, Batesburg-Leesville: Watkins was 5-for-8 at the plate with a double, triple and four RBIs as the Panthers clinched the region title last week.

Barrett Wilson, Lexington soccer: Senior had three goals and four assists in wins over River Bluff and Cardinal Newman. In the win over RB, Wilson had three goals and two assists.

Eddie Wright, Chapin lacrosse: Junior had six goals and an assist in a playoff win over Socastee.

Kendall Wright, Swansea baseball: Sophomore was 5-for-8 with three RBIs and three stolen bases last week.
