Vote for The State’s Midlands high school boys and girls lacrosse players of the year

It’s time to vote for The State’s Midlands girls and boys lacrosse players of the year.

Voting ends at noon Wednesday (May 21), and you can vote as many times as you like. The winner will be announced May 21 along with The State’s all-area lacrosse team.

The nominees are listed below. (Please note that these polls are not scientific and are meant to be just for fun.)

Girls Player of Year nominees. Cast your vote below bios

Emersin Clamp, GK, Lexington: Senior goalkeeper allowed 86 goals and had a 59.6 save percentage for the state champion Wildcats. Clamp was first-team All-State, Lower State Goalie of Year, Lower State Player of the Year and North-South All-Star selection. She has signed to play at Lander University.

Piper Haskett, M, Mid-Carolina: Freshman midfielder had 44 goals, 46 ground balls and 69 draw controls. Haskett was a first-team Lower State selection and second-team all-state pick.

Brooke Holmes, M, Chapin: Senior had 69 goals and 10 assists this season for the Eagles. She was a second-team All-State selection, picked for North-South All-Star game and signed with Elon. Holmes set a school record for career goals (236).

Izzy Saville, M, Lexington: Senior midfielder had 68 goals, 32 assists, 52 ground balls and 40 caused turnovers for the state champion Wildcats. Saville was first-team All-State selection, Lower State Midfielder of the Year and North-South All-Star selection. She signed with Lenoir-Rhyne.

Ava Stone, Attack, Heathwood Hall: Sophomore attack had 35 goals, 29 assists, 22 groundballs and 22 draw controls. Stone was a first-team All-SCISA selection.

Lily Sundell, M, Lexington: Junior midfielder had 72 goals, 40 assists, 48 groundballs, 30 caused turnovers and 114 draw controls. Sundell was first-team Lower State and first-team All-State. She is committed to Gardner-Webb.

Louise Vipperman, Attack, AC Flora: Junior had 80 goals, 36 assists, 34 ground balls and 36 draw controls. Vipperman was first-team Lower State and a second-team all-state selection.

James Gucciardo, DM, Chapin: Senior defense/midfielder had three goals, five assists, 58 groundballs and 23 takeaways. Gucciardo was Lower State Defense/Midfielder of the Year and a first-team All-State selection.

Sawyer Headley, M, Lexington: Junior midfielder had 35 goals, 13 assists, 65 ground balls and 18 takeaways. Headley was first-team Lower State and first-team All-State.

Hunter Hodges, M/FO Heathwood Hall: Senior midfielder/face-off specialist had 21 goals, two assists, won 70.3 percent of his face-offs and had 121 groundballs. Hodges was a first-team All-SCISA selection.

Drew McCall, Attack, Hammond: Senior attack had 27 goals, 31 assists and 42 groundballs. McCall was a first-team All-SCISA selection.

Palmer Mood, M, AC Flora: Senior midfielder had 34 goals, 16 assists, 63 groundballs and 25 takeaways. Was a first-team Lower State and first-team All-State selection. Mood signed with the University of Alabama-Huntsville.

Thomas Oakes, Attack, Blythewood: Senior had 34 goals and 45 assists and was a North-South All-Star selection. Oakes signed to play at Methodist University.

Michael Shields, FO, River Bluff: Junior face-off specialist won 76 percent of face-offs, had one goal, four assists and 127 groundballs. Was Lower State Face-off Specialist of Year and a first-team All-State selection.

Thomas Werny, D, Lexington: Senior defender had 80 groundballs and 50 takeaways. Werny was first-team Lower State, first-team All-State and a North-South All-Star selection. He signed to play at Lander University.

Eddie Wright, Attack, Chapin: Junior attack had 56 goals, 20 assists and 30 groundballs. Was first-team Lower State Attack, Lower State Attack of the Year and first-team All-State.
