Vote for The State’s Midlands high school boys Athlete of the Week: May 19
It’s time to vote for The State’s spring sports boys Athlete of the Week from Midlands-area high schools and games played May 12-17.
Voting ends Friday at noon. The winner will be announced on Lou Bezjak’s Twitter/X page.
This is the last player of the week poll for the spring season.
Boys Player of Week Nominees
Jordyn Best, Ridge View track and field: Best won the 100, was third in the 200 and was part of first-place 4x100 relay team as the Blazers won the Class 5A Division track and field championship.
Tydarion Grier, Fairfield Central: Grier won the 100 and 200 and was on the Griffins’ winning relay teams as they won the Class 2A track and field championship.
Harrison James, Chapin golf: James shot a 7-under 65 to win the Class 5A Division II Lower State golf championship.
Chance Johnson, Blythewood baseball: Johnson went 4-for-8 with 5 RBIs in two games as the Bengals won the district championship.
Grant Kissner, Lexington baseball: Kissner hit a walk-off grand slam as the Wildcats rallied to beat Dorman, 14-10, to win the district championship. Kissner finished the game with two hits and six RBIs.
Tyler Kneece, Batesburg-Leesville baseball: The Panthers’ pitcher went 2-0 on the mound last week as B-L won the district championship and first game of the 2A Upper State bracket. In 9 ⅓ innings pitched, Kneece allowed one earned run on eight hits.
Sean Lee, Ben Lippen baseball: The senior pitched a 1-hit complete-game with 11 strikeouts in the opening game of the SCISA 4A baseball championship series. At the plate, he went 4-for-11 with two RBI in three games.
Kaden Myers, Mid-Carolina baseball: Myers went 1-0 with a save in the Rebels’ two wins last week. He allowed four hits, no runs and struck out 15 in 9 2/3 innings pitched. At the plate, he was 7-for-11 with two doubles, a home run and 2 RBIs.
Ethan Moody, Richland Northeast track and field: Moody won the 100 meters and 110 and 400 hurdles at the Class 4A track and field championship.
Jayden Wilson, Westwood track and field: Wilson won the boys’ 100 and 200 at the Class 4A track and field championships.
