Another Stroman is going to lead the Lower Richland High girls basketball program.

Former Lower Richland standout Morgan Stroman is returning to her alma mater and will be the Diamond Hornets’ new girls basketball coach. Stroman replaces Aaron Lucas, who left in May to become the girls basketball coach at Ridge View.

“I am truly grateful and honored for the opportunity to be able to share my experiences with this program and extend my knowledge to this team,” Stroman told The State. “Just being back means so much and brings back so many memories.”

Stroman is the daughter of legendary Lower Richland coach Debbie Stroman Wardlaw, who won almost 500 games and seven state championships at the school before retiring in 2016.

Morgan said her mother gave her some advice before taking the job, which is her first head coaching opportunity.

“The advice my mom gave me was to just have fun enjoy the moments and to continue the legacy through this new era,” Morgan said. “My mom is super proud and supportive. I’m happy to make her smile.”

Morgan played for her mother at LR and was part of four straight state championship teams from 2006-09. She was named S.C. Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year three straight seasons (2007-09), the only player in state history to win the award three times. Stroman also was a McDonald’s All-American her senior season and finished her career with 1,459 points.

Stroman signed to play at Miami and was an All-Atlantic Coast first-team selection, scoring over 1,000 points in her career, and was part of the Hurricanes’ 2011 ACC championship team.

After college, Stroman played professionally in Europe with stops in Finland, the Netherlands, Romania and Spain.

When her playing career ended, Stroman got into college coaching and spent time at her alma mater Miami as well as Bellarmie and Kennesaw State.

Lower Richland went 25-2 this season, the most wins for the program since the 2014 season. The Diamond Hornets won three straight region titles and 36 straight region games dating back to the 2021-22 season. LR made it to the 4A Lower State championship game before losing to North Augusta.
