Vote for The State’s Midlands boys, girls soccer Players of the Year
It’s time to vote for The State’s Midlands boys and girls soccer Players of the Year. Voting ends at noon Thursday, June 19, and you can vote as many times as you like.
The winner will be announced next week along with The State newspaper’s all-area boys and girls soccer teams.
The nominees and polls are below. Please note that these polls are not scientific and are meant to be just for fun:
Girls Player of Year Nominees
Lila Bowers, Chapin: Junior midfielder had 20 goals and 17 assists this season. Bowers was a Class 5A Division II All-State selection and committed to play at Winthrop.
Elle Brewer, Hammond: Senior was the SCISA 1-4A Player of Year and a North-South All-Star selection. Brewer is committed to play at Winthrop.
Avery Campbell, Gilbert: Sophomore had 21 goals and three assists this season. Campbell was a Class 4A All-State selection.
Victoria Coleman, Gray Collegiate: Junior forward led the team with 32 goals and 22 assists. Coleman was a Class 4A All-State selection.
Adriana Dunat, Lexington: Junior midfielder had 19 goals and nine assists this season. Dunat was a Class 5A Division I All-State selection and committed to play at Davidson.
Madilyn Horning, Mid-Carolina: Senior had 32 goals and five assists this season for the Rebels.
Julia Salo, River Bluff: Senior goalkeeper set a program-record with a 0.526 goals against average with 13 shutouts. Salo was a Class 5A Division I All-State selection and was picked to play in Clash of Carolinas All-Star game. She is signed to play at Converse.
Emma Valdes, AC Flora: The center/midfielder had 31 goals and 30 assists in helping the Falcons to the program’s first state championship. Valdes was a Class 4A All-State selection, the 4A Player of the Year and selected to play in Clash of Carolinas All-Star game. She signed to play at Wofford.
Boys Player of Year Nominees
Cullen Maas, AC Flora: Junior forward had 32 goals and 11 assists this season. Maas was Region 3-4A Player of the Year and Class 4A All-State selection.
Wyatt Moore, Dutch Fork: Freshman midfielder had 20 goals and five assists this season. Moore was a Class 5A Division I All-State selection.
Noah Mitchell, Gray Collegiate: Senior midfielder had 12 goals and 26 assists this season for the War Eagles. Mitchell was a Class 4A All-State selection and picked to play in the Clash of the Carolinas All-Star game. He signed to play at Emory & Henry.
Matthew Pinasco, Hammond: Junior midfielder/forward had 32 goals and 26 assists this season. Pinasco was SCISA Region 1-4A Co-Player of Year.
Dalton Purcell, Blythewood: Sophomore midfielder/forward had 15 goals and 19 assists this season. Purcell was the Region 5-5A Player of Year and selected to the Class 5A Division I All-State team.
Connor Smith, Dreher: Senior goalkeeper allowed just 18 goals in 16 games and had five shutouts. Smith was a Class 4A All-State selection.
Jalen Tucker, Chapin: Junior forward had 17 goals and nine assists this season. Tucker was Region 4-5A Player of Year and Class 5A Division II All-State selection.
Dakota Venugopal, Cardinal Newman: Senior defender had seven goals and seven assists this season in helping the Cards to the SCISA 4A championship. Venugoapal was SCISA 1-4A Co-Player of the Year.
Barrett Wilson, Lexington: Senior midfielder had 14 goals and 12 assists this season. Wilson was Class 5A Division I All-State selection and picked to play in Clash of Carolinas All-Star game. Wilson signed to play at Randolph-Macon College.
