North Central volleyball, Heathwood Hall track voted Midlands teams of year

The votes are in and North Central girls volleyball and Heathwood Hall track & field have been voted as the high school sports teams of the year.

Thanks to all who voted in the poll and throughout the 2024-25 high school season. New polls for 2025-2026 season will begin in August.

Girls Team of the Year

AC Flora soccer: The Falcons went 27-2 and captured the program’s first state championship by defeating Bishop England, 1-0, to win the Class 4A title.

Blythewood basketball: Three years removed from a winless season, the Bengals won 29 games and captured the program’s first state title by defeating Summerville, 62-56, for the 5A Division I crown.

Blythewood track and field: The Bengals dominated their way to third straight state championship. Blythewood finished with 107 points, well ahead of Spartanburg’s 54, to win the 5A Division I championship.

Cardinal Newman volleyball: The Cardinals won their third straight SCISA championship and fourth in five years with a 3-0 win over Porter-Gaud.

Chapin cheerleading: The Eagles won their 18th state championship and third in four years by winning the 5A Division II title.

Gray Collegiate cheerleading: The War Eagles won their third straight championship and first in 4A by finishing with 287.5 points.

Gray Collegiate softball: Gray won 32 games on its way to its first 4A title and third in the last four years after defeating York, 2-1, in best-of-three series.

Gray Collegiate track and field: The War Eagles edged Daniel, 61-58, to win its second straight state championship and first in Class 4A.

Heathwood Hall cross country: The Highlanders won their fourth straight SCISA championship after finishing with 46 points, 13 more than Wilson Hall.

Lexington cheerleading: The Wildcats won their third championship in the last five years after winning 5A Division I title.

Lexington lacrosse: The Wildcats won the program’s first state championship by defeating Spartanburg, 12-7, to win the 5A Division I title.

North Central volleyball: The Knights went 33-0-1 and won the program’s first state title by defeating Ninety-Six, 3-0, in the 2A championship. The title was just the second championship for a team sport in school history, joining the 1999 North Central softball team.

Boys Team of the Year

AC Flora tennis: The Falcons went 21-0 and won their fifth state championship by defeating Bishop England, 5-1, in the 4A title match.

Airport baseball: The Eagles went 9-0 in the playoffs and swept Seneca to win the 4A state championship, the first in program history.

Batesburg-Leesville baseball: The Panthers defeated Philip Simmons to win the 2A championship, the program’s first in 86 years.

Cardinal Newman soccer: The Cardinals won their sixth straight state championship by defeating Porter-Gaud, 6-2, to win the SCISA 4A title.

Cardinal Newman wrestling: The Cards defeated Ben Lippen for the SCISA 4A championship. It was the CN’s second straight title and 11th in program history.

Dutch Fork football: The Silver Foxes won their third straight championship and ninth since 2013 after defeating Summerville, 35-21, to win the 5A Division I crown.

Fairfield Central track and field: Fairfield boys dominated the speed events and finished with 101 points to win their second straight Class 2A championship.

Hammond football: The Skyhawks won their eighth straight SCISA championship after defeating Porter-Gaud, 28-21, on a touchdown with 45 seconds left. It was the program’s 22nd title.

Heathwood Hall track and field: The Highlanders won SCISA Division I championship with a total of 129 points, 40 more than second-place Porter-Gaud.

Keenan basketball: The Raiders won the program’s 10th championship with a 58-53 win over Powdersville in the Class 3A title game.

Richard Winn football: The Eagles defeated Laurens Academy, 43-6, to win the SCISA 8-man championship, the program’s first since 2014.

Ridge View basketball: The Blazers won their second straight title and sixth in the last eight seasons with a 71-47 win over Blythewood in the 5A Division I championship game.

Ridge View track and field: The Blazers edged Spartanburg (91-87.5) to win their second straight state championship.

River Bluff golf: The Gators won their first championship in program history by finishing three shots ahead of Dorman in the Class 5A Division I match.
