Midlands high school football: Best Week 2 games, schedule, predictions

It is the second week of the 2025 regular season for high school football in South Carolina.

Below is a look at this week’s top games in the Midlands and predictions for winners for Week 2:

Chapin (0-1) at AC Flora (1-0)

Players to Watch - C: LB Palmer Flake; OL Caden Muskas; ACF: QB Roper Wentzky, WR Blake Betette

Notes: All-time series is tied 7-7, but Chapin has won two straight against the Falcons, including 62-21, last season. Chapin LB Palmer Flake will face his former school. He had 90 tackles last season for the Falcons and had seven in his Chapin debut last week. AC Flora quarterback Roper Wentzky threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns last week against Westwood. Kendall Byrd had two TD catches. AC Flora sophomore Nasir Walker had three sacks last week against the Redhawks. AC Flora is ranked No. 6 in this week’s SC Class 4A poll.

Irmo (1-0) at Byrnes (1-0)

Players to Watch - I: DE Jaiden Bryant, ATH Maleek Miller; B: RB Tre Segarra, QB Caine Rogers

Notes: Third meeting between the two schools. Irmo defeated Byrnes, 35-27, last season. That was the first game between the two schools since 2004. Both teams are ranked in the latest Class 5A media poll with Irmo at No. 4 and Byrnes at No. 8. Irmo has won 22 of its last 23 regular-season games. Irmo QB Drevon Dopson had three touchdown passes last week in the win over Oceanside Collegiate and Jamar Grissett picked off two passes. Byrnes defeated TL Hanna, 30-10, last week in its first game at “new” Nixon Field. The Rebels played all of their games on the road last season while the stadium was being built. Byrnes RB Tre Segarra rushed for 134 yards and a TD and Chanin Harris caught a 77-yard TD in the win over TL Hanna.

Ridge View (1-0) at Northwestern (1-0)

Players to Watch - RV: QB Tre Howard, WR, Khristian Jackson; N: S Tamarion Watkins, WR Kameron Vance

Notes: Another matchup of ranked teams in Class 5A between No. 2 Northwestern and No. 9 Ridge View. Northwestern leads the all-time series, 11-2, and defeated the Blazers, 45-27, last season. Ridge View held Fairfield Central to 48 yards of offense last week in the 40-0 win. Blazers’ QB Tre Howard had 206 all-purpose yards and three scores last week. Spencer Bobian rushed for 103 yards and Jourdain Mack had 110 yards receiving and a TD. Northwestern Running back Quay Mobley rushed for 118 yards and three TDs in a win over Spartanburg. Trojans safety Tamarion Watkins is committed to Texas A&M.

Spartanburg (0-1) at Dutch Fork (0-0)

Players to Watch - S: QB Trey Burke, RB Trenton Lynch; DF: DE Julian Walker, WR Stone Furrey

Notes: Third matchup of ranked 5A teams with defending champion Dutch Fork at No. 1 and Spartanburg at No. 10. Dutch Fork leads the series, 6-1, including a 24-7 win last year. It is the season opener for the Silver Foxes, who are going for their fourth straight state championship. Dutch Fork enters the season on an 21-game winning streak and has won 10 or more games in a season 14 of the last 15 years. Dutch Fork is led by Michigan commit Julian Walker on defense. It will be the first varsity start for quarterback Jaxon Knotts, the son of Silver Foxes coach Tom Knotts. Spartanburg QB Trey Burke is an East Carolina commit.

Lugoff-Elgin (1-0) at Camden (1-0)

Players to Watch - LE: WR EJ Richardson, WR Shamil Saadiq; C: ATH Tylin Drakeford, DE Dontrell Wilson

Notes: Latest installment in rivalry between Kershaw County foes. Camden has won six straight against L-E and leads the all-time series, 36-8, including a 31-13 win last season. L-E receiver Shamil Saadiq had six catches for 174 yards and two touchdowns last week against Lower Richland. L-E sophomore Jace Coleman had 14 tackles and two sacks last week against LR. Camden is ranked No. 8 in the latest Class 4A poll. Camden RB Navier Boykin rushed for 106 yards last week against White Knoll.
