Midlands high school football: Best Week 6 games, schedule, predictions

It is the sixth week of the 2025 regular season for South Carolina public high school football. Here is a look at this week’s top games in the Midlands and predictions for winners for Week 6:

Newberry (5-0) at Saluda (3-1)

Players to Watch - N: QB Kenton Caldwell, TE Jamel Howse; S: QB Brayden Williams, EB Tristan Daniels

Notes: Newberry leads all-time series, 24-15-2 and has won three of last four against the Tigers, including last year’s 24-15 victory. Newberry WR Jamere Crooks was selected to the Touchstone Energy Bowl this week and leads the team with 29 catches for 403 yards and six touchdowns. Newberry has scored 40 or more points in each of its five games this season. Newberry QB Kenton Caldwell has thrown for 1,038 yards and rushed for 626 yards with 24 total touchdowns. Saluda QB Brayden Williams has thrown for 520 yards, rushed for 127 with nine total touchdowns. Sandy Springs leads Saluda with three interceptions.

North Augusta (5-0) at Gray Collegiate (2-2)

Players to Watch - NA: OL Malcolm Gaston, RB Mike Doe; GC: LB Michael Boulware, WR/DB Corey Gleaton

Notes: Second meeting between the two schools. North Augusta won, 20-17. Matchup of teams ranked in latest Class 4A poll. NA is No. 3 and Gray Collegiate is No. 9. North Augusta DL Davion McKinnis was selected to the Touchstone Energy Bowl this week. Gray Collegiate RB Trevon Williamson leads the team with 401 yards, rushing including a season-high 242 last week against Midland Valley. WR/DB Corey Gleaton leads Gray with 15 catches for 393 yards, four touchdowns and also has picked off three passes. Michael Boulware leads the War Eagles with 81 tackles.

Northwood (4-1) at Hammond (5-0)

Players to Watch - N: QB Kevin Johnson, WR Aydan Hogan; H: LB/K Jackson Ross, DL John Stokes

Notes: Second ever meeting between two schools and a matchup of the two favorites in SCISA 4A. Hammond won 16-0 last season. Northwood’s only loss was 19-13 to out-of-state opponent Cannon School (NC), 19-13. Jordin Carter leads Northwood with three interceptions. Northwood QB Kevin Johnson has thrown for 1,174 yards and nine touchdowns. Aydan Hogan leads the team with 33 catches for 502 yards and three touchdowns. Hammond’s defense is giving up just six points a game. Levi Myers leads the Skyhawks with 446 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Jackson Ross leads Hammond with 33 tackles, 11 for loss. DL John Stokes leads Hammond with eight sacks.

Ridge View (2-2) at Westwood (4-1)

Players to Watch - RV: DB Jordyn Best, WR Jourdain Mack; W: RB Angelo Rios, RB Jovan Howard

Notes: Ridge View has won six straight over Westwood and leads the all-time series, 10-3. The Blazers have given up just six points in the last three games against the Redhawks. Ridge View receiver Carter Coleman was selected to the Touchstone Energy Bowl this week and has 13 catches for 202 yards and three touchdowns. Ridge View running back Spencer Bobian leads the team with 398 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Westwood has won four straight games after losing the opener against AC Flora. Westwood running backs Jovan Howard (413) and Angelo Rios (398) have combined for 811 yards and 13 touchdowns. Duke commit Jayden Boyd leads Westwood with two interceptions.

Eau Claire (4-1) at Pelion (2-2)

Players to Watch - EC: QB Jahcory Sumpter, LB Tavares Siebles; P: WR Jai Chuniesingh, LB Brady Cottingham

Notes: Pelion leads the all-time series, 8-1, and defeated the Shamrocks, 27-12, last season. The game was moved to Thursday because of the threat of inclement weather on Friday. Eau Claire’s four wins are the most since 2018 and more combined than the program had from 2019-2024. Eau Claire is averaging 261.8 yards per game on the ground. EC quarterback Jahcory Sumpter leads the team with 633 yards rushing, five touchdowns and has picked off three passes on defense. Tavares Siebles and Kevin Williams each have five sacks to lead Eau Claire. Pelion QB Alan Moore had thrown for 666 yards and 10 touchdowns. Jai Chuniesingh leads Pelion with 24 catches for 473 yards and five touchdowns.
