Midlands teams, golfers qualify for South Carolina girls’ state championships
The Lexington girls golf team won its state qualifying tournament on Monday.
The Wildcats shot a 299 to win the Class 5A Division I Lower State championship. Lexington’s Taryn Smoak (71) was the tournament’s medalist.
Other Midlands teams and individuals qualified for next week’s state tournament. Blythewood and Spring Valley qualified in the 5A Division I Upper State tournament.
Chapin and Lugoff-Elgin qualified in the 5A Division II Lower State tournament.
Gilbert and Gray Collegiate’s Kyle Smith qualified at the Class 4A Lower State championship.
In the 4A Upper State qualifier on Tuesday, AC Flora’s Merritt Barbery was the medalist and the Falcons finished second as a team. Camden was fourth.
State tournaments will be Oct. 27-28 at various sites in the state.
