High Five! Heathwood Hall girls win another SCISA cross country title
Heathwood Hall continued its dominance in girls cross country on Saturday.
The Highlanders won their fifth-straight title as they captured the S.C. Independent School Association’s Class 4A championship in Columbia.
Heathwood finished with 42 points and had three runners finish in the top-six. Hammond was second with 75 points, Wilson Hall (78) was third and Northside Christian (90) was fourth. Ben Lippen was sixth, and Cardinal Newman finished ninth.
Dorothy Hutchins (18:55.28) was third and Annabel Martin (18:55.88) fourth to lead Heathwood. Cate Leppard (19:04) was sixth. Teammates Lydia Smith (14th) and Mary Widener (15th) were in the top-15.
Porter-Gaud’s Morgan Howell (17:47) won the race; Hammond’s Megan Joye (18:41) was second. Northside Christian’s Kaylee Thompson was eighth and Hammond’s Emme Crosland 10th in earning all-state honors. Northside’s Madison Gause was 12th and Ben Lippen’s Mallori Craft was No. 13.
On the boys’ side, Ben Lippen (92) and Heathwood (96) were third and fourth, respectively. Wilson Hall was the race winner. John Paul II was second.
WH’s Trip Hunt (15:26) won the race and Heathwood’s Jack Wilcox (15:34) was second. Ben Lippen’s Liam Thompson (5th) and Henry Naylor (7th) earned all-state honors.
Richard Winn, Newberry Academy win championships
Richard Winn girls and Newberry Academy boys won SCISA Class A cross country championships.
Richard Winn’s Hayden Branham (20:42) won her fourth straight individual championship and the Eagles captured their second straight SCISA Class A title.
RW’s Ada Bass was fourth and Lilian Trapp sixth.
NA’s Lance Crider (18:13) won the individual title and Newberry Academy finished with 53 points, eight less than second-place Marlboro Academy. Michael Vinci was seventh and Campbell Lake ninth for Newberry Academy.
