Fairfield Central freshman voted Midlands high school football Player of Week

The latest round of the high school football playoffs is in the books.

Ihe votes are in, and Fairfield Central’s Keylin Culp won the vote for The State’s Midlands High School Football Player of the Week.

The nominees are listed below. Please note that these polls are not scientific and are meant to be just for fun. This was the last poll of the season. The next will be held after the state championship for area’s top offensive and defensive players of the year and coach of the year.

Player of Week Nominees

Michael Boulware, LB, Gray Collegiate: Senior had 25 tackles (one for loss) in playoff win over Hartsville.

Keylin Culp, S, Fairfield Central: Freshman had six tackles, two interceptions and returned one for a touchdown in win over Andrew Jackson.

Tylin Drakeford, WR/DB, Camden: Senior had 176 all-purpose yards, a touchdown catch, a TD pass and had six tackles, an interception in a win over Seneca.

Kye Fulton, WR, Dutch Fork: Senior caught five passes for 119 yards and a TD and also had a tackle in the win over Boiling Springs.

Jamar Grissett, DB, Irmo: Junior had seven tackles, picked off a pass and blocked two field goals in a win over Lugoff-Elgin.

BJ Jones, RB, Newberry: Senior carried 22 times for 192 yards and five touchdowns in a win over Hanahan.

Aidan Keeffe, HB/TB, Ridge View: Senior had eight touches for 80 yards and TD against Spartanburg. Keeffe also graded out 92 percent

Hayden Myers, RB, River Bluff: Senior carried it 38 times for 216 yards and five touchdowns in a playoff loss to Stratford.

James Richardson, K, Heathwood Hall: The senior hit three field goals, including the game-winning one with 1.5 seconds left, to lift the Highlanders past Hammond, 16-13, and into the SCISA 4A championship game.

Jaylin Simmons, RB, AC Flora: Junior carried it 34 times for 334 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Daniel.
