Gray Collegiate duo voted Midlands HS basketball players of the week

The votes are in, and Gray Collegiate’s Luis Echevarria and Aneya Britt won the vote for The State’s Midlands High School Basketball Players of the Week.

Thanks for all who voted. There will be a new poll up on Tuesday. Coaches can send nominees to Lou Bezjak at lbezjak@thestate.com by noon on Tuesdays.

Boys Player of Week Nominees

Justus Bell, Dutch Fork: Senior averaged 26.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, shot 67 percent from the field in wins over White Knoll and Lexington.

Carter Coggins, Chapin: Junior guard averaged 20 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and shot 37 percent from three-point range in two games last week.

Hunter Collins, Heathwood Hall: Junior averaged 22 points, 5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and hit 54 percent from three-point range in wins over Cardinal Newman and Augusta Christian.

Luis Echevarria, Gray Collegiate: Guard averaged 17.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and shot 77.8 percent from the field in War Eagles’ three wins last week.

Samajae Govan, Dutch Fork: The Silver Foxes guard averaged 20 points, 6.5 steals, 5 assists in wins over White Knoll and Lexington.

Milton McCray, CA Johnson: Junior averaged 21 points, 4 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks in three games last week.

CJ Moore, Ridge View: Sophomore averaged 11 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists in the Blazers’ two wins last week.

Braxton Redding, American Leadership: Redding averaged 13 points, 11 rebounds, 9.5 blocks and 5.5 assists in two games last week.

DJ Wylie, Ridge View: Junior averaged 14 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in the Blazers’ two wins last week.

Girls Player of Week Nominees

Aneya Britt, Gray Collegiate: Junior averaged 19 points, 11 rebounds in War’ Eagles’ two wins last week.

Dakota Jenkins, Heathwood Hall: Freshman averaged 13.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals in Highlanders’ two games last week.

Taelor Lee-Sutton, Keenan: Sophomore averaged 23.8 points in Raiders’ three wins last week.

Jaleya Lytes, Lexington: Senior averaged 16 points and 3 steals in Wildcats’ two wins last week.

Tiana Randall, Irmo: Freshman averaged 14 points and 7.5 rebounds in Yellow’ Jackets’ two wins last week.
