Dreher, Heathwood Hall standouts voted high school basketball players of the week

The votes are in, and Dreher’s Kynadi Breland and Heathwood Hall’s Deuce Claxton won the vote for The State’s Midlands High School Basketball Players of the Week.

Thanks for all who voted. There will be a new poll up on Tuesday. Coaches can send nominees to Lou Bezjak at lbezjak@thestate.com by noon on Tuesdays.

Boys Player of Week nominees

Oshon Browman, Irmo: Junior center averaged 16 points and 8 rebounds, including a 19-point, 8-rebound performance in the win over No. 1 Dutch Fork.

Deuce Claxton, Heathwood Hall: Senior guard averaged 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and shot 44% from 3-point range in the Highlanders’ two wins last week.

Aaissic Germany, CA Johnson: Germany averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 blocks in two wins last week.

Chris McClenic, Spring Valley: Sophomore forward averaged 20.5 points, 12.5 rebounds in the Vikings’ two games last week.

Brice Newton, American Leadership: Newton averaged 15 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals for ALA last week.

Tony Odom, CA Johnson: The guard averaged 22 points and 4 assists in 2 wins last week.

Justin Richburg, American Leadership: Richburg averaged 16 points, 5 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 3.5 assists for ALA last week.

Kolton Rogers, Pelion: Senior averaged 22.5 points and 7 rebounds in two games last week.

Braysen Stockman, Ben Lippen: Senior averaged 30 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 3.3 assists in three games last week.

D’Marcus Thomas, Westwood: Senior averaged 20 points, 3 assists, 3 steals in two games last week.

Girls Player of Week Nominees

Kynadi Breland, Dreher: The sophomore forward averaged 21 points, 19 rebounds and 1.5 steals in the Blue Devils’ two games last week.

Trinity Crumlin, Dutch Fork: Junior center had a career-high 24 points and 24 rebounds against Irmo and averaged 15.5 points, 15.5 rebounds and 3 blocks in Silver Foxes’ two games.

Naja Gray, AC Flora: Eighth grade guard averaged 19 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists in the Falcons’ two games last week.

Teryn Hobson, Lugoff-Elgin: Junior guard/forward averaged 15 points, 8.5 assists and 7 rebounds in two games last week.

Taelor Lee-Sutton, Keenan: Sophomore averaged 23.5 points, 6 steals, 5 rebounds and 3 assists last week.

Madge Miller, Hammond: Senior had 13 points and 12 rebounds in the Skyhawks’ lone game, a win over Northside Christian.

Chase Thomas, Blythewood: The senior and SC State commitment averaged 21 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals in two games last week. She had a triple-double against Westwood with 26 points, 21 rebounds and 10 assists.
