Basketball roundup: Ridge View boys dominate rematch with Westwood. Gray sweeps NA

The Ridge View boys basketball team avenged its only region loss on Tuesday night.

The Blazers led throughout in the 64-47 win over Westwood in front of a sellout crowd and matchup of two of the area’s top teams. Ridge View entered the game ranked No. 1 in Class 5A Division I, while Westwood (18-2, 7-1) was No. 2 in 5A Division II poll.

Westwood won the first matchup between the two teams, 64-61, on Jan. 5. But the rematch was one-sided with the Blazers (18-3, 6-1) leading 12-3 after the first quarter and going ahead by 17 points to start the fourth quarter.

Ridge View has five region games left and Westwood has four. If the two teams finish tied in the region standings, the Blazers get the tiebreaker because of point differential in the two games.

CJ Moore and JT Vankallen led the Blazers with 16 points. RJ Davis added 14 points and Talan Staley had 10.

D’Marcus Thomas led Westwood with 16 points and Jayden Crews had 13.

In the girls game, Westwood rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the Blazers, 52-49. Amari Alexander led the Redhawks with 18 points and Teoni Cummings added 10.

Aniyah Carr and Reagan Ferguson each had 10 points to leave Ridge View.

Gray Collegiate sweeps North Augusta

Top-ranked Gray Collegiate rallied from an early first-quarter deficit to defeat North Augusta, 54-46, to win a matchup of the top two teams in Region 5-4A.

With the win, Gray sweeps the season series from the Yellow Jackets and is in the driver’s seat for the region title and No. 1 seed for 4A playoffs.

The War Eagles trailed 14-7 after the first quarter but outscored the Yellow Jackets, 18-8 in the second to lead 25-22 at halftime. Gray hit four 3-pointers in the second quarter.

Levi Ball led Gray with 19 points, including a jumper at the end of the third quarter to put Gray up 39-37. Luis Echevarria added 10 points.

Tristan Anderson led NA with 18 points.
