Lexington, Heathwood Hall standouts voted high school basketball players of week

The votes are in, and Lexington’s Cassidy Harry and Heathwood Hall’s Henry Morris won the vote for The State’s Midlands High School Basketball Players of the Week.

Thanks for all who voted. There will be a new poll up on Tuesday. Coaches can send nominees to Lou Bezjak at lbezjak@thestate.com by noon on Tuesdays.

Boys Player of Week nominees

Jordan Brown, Dreher: Brown averaged 10.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3 assists in the Blue Devils’ three games last week.

Aiassic Germany, CA Johnson: Senior had his 11th-straight double-double by scoring 13 points and grabbing 12 boards in the Green Hornets’ lone game, a win over Great Falls.

Peyton Jennings, White Knoll: Jennings scored 26 points, had 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks in the Timberwolves’ lone game last week, a win over River Bluff.

Henry Morris, Heathwood Hall: Senior forward averaged 15 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1 block while shooting 85.7 percent from the floor in the Highlanders’ two games last week.

Brice Newton, American Leadership: Senior guard averaged 15 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists while shooting 57 percent from the field for the Patriots last week.

Talan Staley, Ridge View: Senior was picked for Carolinas Classic last week and averaged 12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists in Blazers’ two games.

Braysen Stockman, Ben Lippen: Senior scored a school-record 52 points against Northside and averaged 39 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 steals in the Falcons’ three games last week.

Khiry White, Irmo: The freshman had 21 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in Irmo’s lone game, a win over Lexington.

Girls Player of Week Nominees

Amari Alexander, Westwood: Eighth-grader had 18 points in a comeback win over Ridge View and averaged 13.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2 assists in the Redhawks’ two games last week.

Jamia Gerald, Dutch Fork: Junior guard had 18 points, 8 assists, and 3 steals in the Silver Foxes’ lone game, a win over Chapin

Cassidy Harry, Lexington: Junior scored 22 points, had 5 rebounds and 5 steals in the Wildcats’ lone game, a win over Irmo last week.

Laney McEntire, Ben Lippen: Freshman averaged 15 points, 4.3 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 3.5 steals for the Falcons last week.

Jazz McMillan, Hammond: Junior averaged 22.5 points, 7 rebounds and 3.5 assists in the Skyhawks’ two games last week.

Everette Pope, Heathwood Hall: Sophomore guard averaged 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in the Highlanders’ two games last week.

Chaelyn Tifre, River Bluff: Tifre had 20 points and 11 rebounds in RB’s lone game against White Knoll.
