Five Midlands wrestlers win titles at 2026 SC individual state championships
Three area girls and two boys won state titles at the 2026 SC High School League individual wrestling state championships on Saturday.
The championships were held at the Florence Center for the second straight year.
Girls state champions were Lexington’s Grace Beeson, Airport’s Givyn Dyer and River Bluff’s Kyrra Shipman-Lutz. Boys champions were Dutch Fork’s Jackson Stocker and Lugoff-Elgin’s Logan Hinton.
Beeson won her second straight state championship by defeating Rock Hill’s Reagan Beard (7-0 decision) in the 120-pound division. The sophomore entered the championship ranked No. 1 in her weight class by Scmat.com.
Dyer, a senior, won her first championship by pinning Greenwood’s Malia Hart at the 3:30 mark to win the 140-pound title. She was making her third championship appearance, finishing third in 2024.
Shipman-Lutz became the Gators’ first state girls champion by pinning Greenwood’s Heaven Whatley at the 3:58 mark to win the 190-pound title. It was her second appearance in the championships.
Stocker won his first state championship by defeating Indian Land’s Josiah Fogarty, 10-2, to win the Class 5A boys 132-pound championship. The senior, ranked No. 1 in his weight class, was a runner-up in 2023 and 2024.
Hinton captured his first title by pinning James Island’s Copeland Grooms at the 4:42 mark. The senior was making his third championship appearance and finished third last year.
Several other Midlands wrestlers placed in the top four in their classes at the championships.
On the girls side, Gilbert’s Rory Travis (170) was second. Third-place finishers were River Bluff’s Sophia Voudouris (135), Chapin’s Grace Jumper (140) and River Bluff’s Amy Robinson (155). Fourth-place finishers were White Knoll’s Jemizhia Delli (100) and Blythewood’s Audra Petroff (155).
On the boys’ side, runner-up finishers were Dreher’s Franco Pressley (106), AC Flora’s Ethan Adams (132), Richland Northeast’s Devante Carter (144) in Class 4A. Mid-Carolina’s Carson Sturgess (126) and Ryker Woolstenhulme (144) and Pelion’s Shiloh Tindal (138) finished second in their classes in Class 2A.
Third-place finishers were Westwood’s Zion Johnson (Class 5A, 215), Dreher’s Hadi Jabali (Class 4A, 165), Keenan’s Joseph Taylor (Class 3A, 215), Pelion’s Isaiah Dover (Class A/2A, 132) and Eau Claire’s Mahaki Jones (Class 3A, 215).
Fourth-place finishers were Dreher’s Victor Washington (150), AC Flora’s John Grove (165) and Gilbert’s Jake Stroud (190).
