Former Gamecock joining state champion Dutch Fork football coaching staff
Greg Wright is joining state champion Dutch Fork’s coaching staff.
Wright, a former South Carolina Gamecock player, will be the next defensive coordinator at Dutch Fork. The move was approved at Monday’s Lexington-Richland 5 school board meeting. He replaces Scott Braswell, who left this offseason to become the head coach at South Florence.
Wright was the head coach at Timberland the last five years but resigned his position earlier this month.
Wright replaced longtime coach Art Craig and went 37-27 in his five seasons at Timberland, including a 9-3 record in 2025. He also was a head coach at Eau Claire, Swansea and Denmark-Olar.
After Swansea, Wright landed at Denmark-Olar for one season before the Timberland job. He still was living in Columbia despite coaching two hours away at Timberland. He’s been spotted at several Dutch Fork games in recent years and is familiar with Tom Knotts’ program.
Coming out of Cross High School, Wright was a linebacker and walked on at South Carolina before earning a scholarship from USC coach Steve Spurrier. He played mainly on special teams and outside linebacker from 2005-07.
Wright was an assistant coach for the 2024 Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl.
The Silver Foxes have won four straight Class 5A championships and nine in the last 10 years. This year’s defense features Division I prospects Jaeden Wuerth, KJ Dupre, Taddrick Gibson and AC Flora transfer Peyton Bishop.
