Richland Northeast is in the market for a new boys basketball coach.

Jacob Lourie is stepping down after five seasons as head coach and 19 years in the program. Lourie replaced JoJo English as head coach before the 2021-22 season after English took a job at Lower Richland.

Lourie also was an assistant under former coaches Jason Powell, Aaron Lucas and English.

“I’m stepping down to explore other opportunities,” Lourie told The State. “I’m extremely grateful for the chance to lead my alma mater. I will cherish all the memories and relationships I’ve made. I’m excited for the next adventure, but it was time for a change.”

Lourie won 48 games during his tenure, including a pair of winning seasons in 2021-22 and 2023-24. The Cavs’ 2023-24 team went 15-13 and lost in the second round of the playoffs to James Island. It was Richland Northeast’s first playoff win in four seasons and first road playoff win in over a decade.

Lourie had seven former players go on to play college basketball.

Richland Northeast went 7-19 this season and missed the playoffs. The Cavs will be in Region 4-4A in 2026-28 realignment with AC Flora, Dreher, Lancaster, Lugoff-Elgin and Westwood.

The school posted Lourie’s job opening on the Richland 2 website Friday morning. Richland Northeast is the fifth area job that is currently open and second in Richland 2, joining Spring Valley.
