Blythewood softball, Chapin soccer standouts voted spring sports athletes of week

The votes are in, and Blythewood’s Makalah Ford and Chapin’s Jackson Dyer won the vote for The State’s Midlands High School boys and girls Athletes of the Week.

Thanks for all who voted. There will be a new poll up on Tuesday. Coaches can send nominees to Lou Bezjak at lbezjak@thestate.com by noon on Tuesdays.

Girls Player of Week Nominees

Delina Mayinga Bora, Columbia soccer: Junior had 7 goals and 6 assists in Capitals’ two wins last week.

Abby Brown, AC Flora softball: Junior first baseman went 11-for-15 with 5 HRs and 15 RBIs.

Makalah Ford, Blythewood softball: Ford went 5-for-8 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs last week.

Katie Gallman, Mid-Carolina softball: Senior third baseman went 5-for-10 with 2 doubles and 2 stolen bases

Alexis Jodie, River Bluff softball: Senior 1B/P went 7-for-11 with 7 RBIs and also pitched a 5-inning no-hitter with 7 Ks against Dutch Fork. In 12 innings pitched last week, she allowed three hits and struck out 15.

Coles Milliken, AC Flora soccer: Sophomore forward had 4 goals and 4 assists for the Falcons last week.

Ava Rowe, Irmo lacrosse: Senior had 10 goals in Yellow Jackets’ two matches and became the school’s all-time leading goal scorer. She currently has 79 goals.

Boys Player of Week Nominees

John Auspelmyer, Blythewood lacrosse: Junior stopped all 14 shots in a win over White Knoll.

Dalton Corley, River Bluff baseball: Senior pitcher struck out a school-record 17 in a complete-game win over Irmo.

Jackson Dyer, Chapin soccer: Junior defender was on defense and part of two Eagles’ shutouts and also had the game-winning goal against River Bluff.

Ty Fajardo, Ben Lippen baseball: Senior centerfielder went 6-for-11 with 5 runs scored, 3 RBIs and 3 stolen bases.

Matthew Pinasco, Hammond soccer: Pinasco had three goals and two goals in Skyhawks’ lone match, a 7-0 win over Heathwood Hall.

Charlie Scott, AC Flora baseball: Senior was 6-for-9 with 4 HRs and 12 RBIs in three games last week.

Brayden Studebaker, Lexington baseball: Studebaker picked up a win against Boiling Springs, allowing 2 runs, 6 hits while striking out 9 in 5.2 innings pitched.

Landon Tolley, American Leadership baseball: Junior C/P went 5-for-9 with 6 RBIs and 2 runs scored. On the mound, he was 1-0 with 4 strikeouts in 4 innings pitched.

Davis Whitaker, Ben Lippen soccer: Junior had a hat trick (3 goals) in the win over Augusta Christian.
