B-L softball, Richard Winn baseball standouts voted spring sports athletes of week
The votes are in, and Batesburg-Leesville’s Kate Shealy and Richard Winn’s Dylan Albert won the vote for The State’s Midlands High School boys and girls Athletes of the Week.
Thanks for all who voted. There will be a new poll up on Tuesday. Coaches can send nominees to Lou Bezjak at lbezjak@thestate.com by noon on Tuesdays.

Girls Player of Week Nominees
Maya Drennon, Lexington softball: Senior second baseman hit .750 with five RBI last week for the Wildcats.
Adriana Dunat, Lexington soccer: Dunat had three goals and two assists in the Wildcats’ two victories last week.
Dahlia Nora, Spring Valley softball: The senior shortstop hit .471 with a double, home run and 5 RBI for the Vikings last week
Mackenzie Sease, Gray Collegiate softball: The sophomore struck out 17 and allowed just one hit in the complete-game 1-hitter in the 7-0 over AC Flora. At the plate, she was 2-for-6 in the War Eagles’ two games.
Kate Shealy, Batesburg-Leesville softball: The sophomore shortstop was 6-for-7 with 3 home runs and 11 RBI in two games last week for the Panthers.
Charity West, White Knoll softball: The sophomore catcher/first baseman was 4-for-7 with a double 3 RBIs in two games last week for the Wolves.
Boys Player of Week Nominees
Dylan Albert, Richard Winn baseball: Albert went 8-for-8 with 2 home runs, 7 RBI and 5 runs scored in the Eagles’ wins over Wardlaw and WW King last week.
Mac Berry, Chapin baseball: Junior pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing five hits and striking out 11 in the 2-0 win over River Bluff.
Daniel Butts, Airport baseball: Junior tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing 5 hits and striking out 11 in the 2-0 win over North Augusta.
Brady Evans, Spring Valley baseball: Senior struck out 13, allowed 1 run on 2 hits in the 4-1 win over Westwood.
Zane Price, Gilbert baseball: Senior went 8-for-12 with a double and 7 RBI last week for the Indians.
JP Sweatt, Gray Collegiate baseball: Sweatt was 6-for-14 as the War Eagles went 4-0 last week. He also pitched three scoreless innings for a save against South Aiken.
Westwood 4x200 relay team: The Redhawks team of Jayden Wilson, Jamey Patterson, Myles Bryant and Jayden Boyd ran a time of 1:22.95 to win the Pepsi Relays in Florida. The time of 1:22.95 is tops in the country this year.
