Blythewood softball, M-C baseball standouts voted spring sports athletes of week
The votes are in, and Blythewood’s Rhames Weisinger and Mid-Carolina’s Colby Livingston won the vote for The State’s Midlands High School boys and girls Athletes of the Week.
Thanks for all who voted. There will be a new poll up on Tuesday. Coaches can send nominees to Lou Bezjak at lbezjak@thestate.com by noon on Tuesdays.

Girls Player of Week Nominees
Caroline Abramson, Irmo soccer: Freshman scored the game-winning penalty kick in the 1-0 win over Dutch Fork.
Jaida Gay, White Knoll softball: Junior third baseman hit .429 with a home run and 5 RBIs in wins over Lexington and Chapin.
Peyton Hendrix, Gray Collegiate softball: Junior pitched a 5-inning perfect game with 11 strikeouts in a win over South Aiken.
Miller Martin, Saluda softball: Freshman went 2-0 as a pitcher with a six-inning no-hitter against Strom Thurmond. Against Batesburg-Leesville, Martin struck out 19 in the 3-2 (9 innings) extra-inning victory that gave the Tigers the region title. She also homered and drove in 3 RBIs during the week.
Everette Pope, Heathwood Hall lacrosse: Sophomore scored a school-record 9 goals against Clover and finished the week with 12 goals, 4 assists and 5 groundballs in two games last week.
Haylee Ann Prevatt, Richard Winn softball: Freshman went 4-for-5 with 2 home runs, a triple and 9 RBIs in two games last week. She also struck out seven and picked up the win against Jefferson Davis.
Mazaria Shaw, Columbia soccer: Junior goalkeeper had 37 saves in two matches, including 23 in an upset win over Chester.
Mary Stone, River Bluff lacrosse: Sophomore goalie combined for 23 saves with a save percentage of .575 in two games last week.
Livi Warren, Lexington softball: Senior went 8-for-8 with a double, 2 home runs and 6 RBIs as the Wildcats clinched the region championship last week.
Rhames Weisinger, Blythewood softball: Catcher went 7-for-8 with 2 doubles, a home run and 3 RBIs in two games last week.
Boys Player of Week Nominees
Jones Bell, Lexington baseball: Junior went 5-for-10 with a double, triple, home run and 7 RBIs last week as Wildcats clinched the No. 1 seed in the region.
Garrett Blankenship, Gray Collegiate baseball: Senior went 4-for-10 with 6 RBIs, including game-winning RBI in the region title-clinching win over Gilbert.
Johnathan Bonds, Richard Winn baseball: Bonds pitched a complete-game, two-hitter with 11 strikeouts in win over Wardlaw. At the plate, he was 2-for-4 with double, triple and 5 RBIs.
Dylan Hernandez, AC Flora baseball: Junior catcher hit .556 with two doubles, home run, 7 RBIs and threw out 2 of 4 runners last week for the Falcons.
Colby Livingston, Mid-Carolina baseball: The senior was 4-for-8 with 3 doubles, 4 RBIs and 4 runs last week.
Ashton McCary, Irmo soccer: Senior had 34 saves in two matches, including 22 against Dutch Fork.
Matthew Pinasco, Hammond soccer: Senior had 7 goals and 6 assists in the Skyhawks’ three matches last week.
Clay Ridgeway, Camden baseball: Junior was 5-for-10 with a triple, double, stolen base and 3 runs scored. Ridgeway also pitched 3.2 shutout innings with 6 strikeouts in win over York.
Kolton Rogers, Pelion baseball: Rogers hit .429 and pitched a complete-game shutout against ALA, striking out 10 and walking none.
Howie Vroon, River Bluff golf: Set two school records in helping River Bluff rally to win the Anderson Brothers Bank Invitational. Vroon shot an 18-hole record of 65 in the final round to finish with a 36-hole total of 8-under (136) as the Gators came back from an 11-shot deficit to win the tournament.
Davis Whitaker, Ben Lippen soccer: The junior scored 6 goals in the Falcons’ three matches last week.
