Hammond girls, Heathwood Hall boys win SCISA track and field championships
Hammond girls and Heathwood Hall boys took home state titles at the SCISA Division I track and field championships on Saturday at Ben Lippen.
It is the second straight state championship for Heathwood Hall, while the Skyhawks won the 13th state title in program history but first since 1999. The title is the third for Hammond this week after it won the boys golf championship and boys tennis championship.
Hammond finished with 140 points, edging Wilson Hall by five points. Heathwood Hall was third with 133. Ben Lippen (57) was fifth and Cardinal Newman (25) seventh.
Charleston Southern Bayli Aiken led the way for Hammond, winning the 100, 200 and 400. Aiken won the meet’s MVP honors. The Skyhawks’ Megan Joye won the 3,200, was second in the 800 and third in the 1,600. Sami Campbell won the shot put and was third in the javelin.
Mya Walker was second in the 100 and 200 and third in the 400 for Hammond. Mia Kosciusko was third in the 100 hurdles, Ellis Huggins third in the 400 hurdles and Reily Campbell third in the shot put for Hammond.
Heathwood Hall had first-place finishers from Taylor Booker (long jump), Saniya Weeks (triple jump), Dorothy Hutchins (1,600) and Scarlett Hutchins (pole vault) and 4x100 relay team. Booker also was third in the high jump.
Heathwood’s Lily Griswold was second in the 100 and 400 hurdles, Queseya Rhooms second in the triple jump and the Highlanders were second in the 4x400 relay. The Highlanders’ Lydia Smith was third in the 800 along with the school’s 4x800 relay team.
Ben Lippen’s Alexa Carr won the discus, while the Falcons won the 4x400 and 4x800 relays. BL’s Sarah Frances Pittard was second in the 400.
Cardinal Newman’s Hannah Ezeihuaku was second in the 200, third in the 300, and Cards were second in the 4x100 relay. Northside Christian’s Emma Spires was third in the discus.
On the boys’ side, Heathwood finished with 130 points with Wilson Hall coming in second with 116. Ben Lippen (61) was fifth, Hammond (35) eighth and Cardinal Newman (28) ninth.
In Heathwood Hall boys’ championship performance, Jack Wilcox won the 1,600, 3,200 and was second in the 800 to earn MVP honors for the meet. Townsley Rivers was second in the 100 and long jump.
HH’s Davis Hagstette was third in the 400 hurdles and third in the pole vault.
HH’s William Goodwin was third in the 200, and the Highlanders were second in the 4x400 relay and third in 4x100 relay.
Ben Lippen’s Liam Thompson was second in the 3,200 and third in the 1,600. Sam Catoe was third in the shot put and discus. Samuel Nos was third in the long jump, and BL finished second in the 4x800 relay.
Hammond’s John Stokes won the shot put and was second in the discus. Cardinal Newman’s Alan Rodriguez was second in the 400.
