Dreher’s Parker changes mind, picks UNC over USC
Kasey Parker has had a change of heart.
After committing to South Carolina, the Dreher senior soccer star announced she has committed to perennial power North Carolina.
“North Carolina has an unbelievable soccer tradition,” Dreher girls soccer coach David Kleinfelder said of the Tar Heels, who have won an NCAA-record 21 national championships. “When you think of women’s soccer, their name comes up. And when you get pursued by them, it makes you stop and think.”
Parker committed to USC in the spring but decommitted over the summer and opened up her recruiting. She attended a camp at UNC in the summer and Kleinfelder said the coaches liked what they saw.
Parker, a forward, was named the South Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year last season after leading the state with 59 goals and 10 assists. Five of Parker’s goals came in the 3A state championship victory over Hilton Head.
HEISE NAMED GIRLS’ SOCCER COACH AT B-C
Emily Heise has been named the new girls soccer coach at Brookland-Cayce.
Heise replaces Katie Clampitt, who is stepping down after seven seasons to spend more time with her family. Clampitt went 120-47-7 and won five region championships.
Heise has been an assistant at B-C since 2009 and was member of the Bearcats’ 2005 state championship team. She played in college at Francis Marion and South Carolina.
