Hammond girls tennis wins SCISA 3A title

Hammond School's senior-dominated lineup stayed alive in singles and then posted the two victories in doubles that the Skyhawks needed to score a 5-4 win over Ashley Hall Saturday in the SCISA Class 3A girls tennis state championship match.

It came down to Hammond seniors Brittney Desmond and Maggie Herring, who outlasted Michaela Cuoco and Rebecca Spratt in the No. 1 doubles match – 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 – to give the Skyhawks the championship.

Hammond’s Anne Jenkins won both of her matches. In singles, she defeated Linsey Yarborough and teamed up with Caroline MacGillivray in doubles.
