SIGNINGS ROUNDUP: Flora baseball duo finalizes destinations

A.C. Flora baseball players Josh Hernandez and Ryan Syrbe signed their letters of intent Monday.

Hernandez, a catcher, signed with UNC Wilmington and Syrbe, a catcher/pitcher, is headed to Limestone.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Hernandez hit .390 with a homer in the regular season last year, but batted .440 with four homers in the playoffs. He was the team MVP and led the Falcons in eight offensive categories.

“It’s something very special to me and my family. It’s been a long time coming, but my journey isn't over yet in high school,” said Hernandez, who played on Flora’s 2014 state championship team. “Still looking to get another ring on my finger before I call my career at Flora over.”

UNC Wilmington won the Colonial Athletic Association championship last year and made it to the Baton Rouge Regional final before losing to LSU.

BL’s Harwood, Elliott sign letters of intent

Ben Lippen golfer William Harwood and cross country runner David Elliott signed their letters of intent Monday.

Harwood is headed to Elon, while Elliott will be a part of Columbia International’s cross country team.

Harwood earned SCISA 3A all-state honors as a junior last season. He also plays in several junior golf events and finished second in the Ballantyne Junior Open and fourth in AJGA Will Claxton Junior.

In, 2014, Harwood qualified for the Callaway Junior World Championships in San Diego.

Four Ridge View athletes sign

Two-time state champion Arlicia Bush was among four Ridge View athletes who recently signed letters of intent.

Bush is headed to Virginia Tech. Other Ridge View signees included girls basketball player Genell Addison (Delaware State), volleyball player Amarrah Cooks (Jacksonville) and lacrosse player Emily Duheme (Charleston, W.Va.).

Bush was a two-time state champion in the 400 and a member of the Blazers’ 4x400 state champion relay team. She also finished seventh in the New Balance Outdoor nationals in the 400 and the 11th in the 200 and 4x400 relay.

Addison, a 5-foot-9 point guard, averaged 8.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.6 steals a game last season.

Cooks was a two-time all-region selection for the Blazers and led the team with 193 kills and 75 blocks this season.
