Three Midlands players nominated for McDonald’s All-American game

Hammond guard Seventh Woods is one of the three Midlands basketball players nominated for the McDonald’s All-American game.

Woods was nominated for the boys game, while Dreher’s Jhileiya Dunlap and Gray Collegiate’s Taylor Toney were nominated for the girls game.

The three players were part of 843 players nominated for the two games. Of those, 12 were from South Carolina. The roster for the game will be announced Jan. 17 at 10:30 p.m. on a selection show on ESPNU.

The boys and girls games will be played March 30 at Chicago’s United Center. Spring Valley’s P.J. Dozier played in last year’s boys game, while Heathwood Hall’s A’ja Wilson was the last Midlands girls player in the game in 2014.

Woods, a North Carolina signee, is averaging 19.9 points a game for the nationally ranked Skyhawks. He is the top-ranked prospect in the state, and ranked 41st nationally by 247Sports and 53rd by ESPN.

Dunlap, also a North Carolina signee, is the 20th best forward in the Class of 2016, according to ESPN. She is averaging 17.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.9 steals.

Toney is averaging 23.7 points a game, and has offers from MEAC and Atlantic Sun Conference schools.
