Dreher’s Kasey Parker signs to play soccer at UNC

Kasey Parker was voted the best high school soccer player in South Carolina last year.

Now, the Dreher senior will be playing her next four years at the nation’s best soccer program. Parker signed to play at powerhouse North Carolina on Wednesday.

“It is a great feeling knowing I am going to finish my soccer career at a great school,” Parker said. “It is a little bit intimidating because of the history and legacy there but I am really excited.”

UNC has won an NCAA-record 21 national championships. with the last coming in 2012, and has produced seven national players of the year. including Mia Hamm.

Parker originally committed to South Carolina in the spring. but decommitted over the summer and opened up her recruiting. She attended a camp at UNC in the summer. The forward was the South Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year last season after leading the state with 59 goals and 10 assists. Five of Parker’s goals came in the 3A state championship victory over Hilton Head.

Parker was one of four signees at Dreher on Wednesday with the other three for football. Quarterback Avery Armstrong and lineman Noah Turnley both are headed to Furman, while Eric Von Hollen is headed to Maryville College in Tennessee.

Armstrong counted for 2,229 yards in total offense and 23 touchdowns this season and was selected to play in the Touchstone Cooperatives Energy Bowl.
