Five Midlands wrestlers win state titles
Lugoff-Elgin’s Seth Ham and Westwood’s Evan Carrigan added to their state championship total while three other Mildands wrestlers won titles Saturday at the South Carolina High School League’s Wrestling Championships at the Anderson Civic Center.
Ham, 195 pounds, pinned Ashley Ridge’s Owen Trephan at the 1:06 mark for his third state championship and first at L-E. His other two were at Cardinal Newman.
Carrigan repeated as state champion in the 132-pound class when he defeated Dalen Byerley 7-2.
L-E’s Noah North (145) and White Knoll’s Rian Burris (152) also won state championships in Class 4A, and Swansea’s Mason Ray won the 220-pound title in Class 3A.
