Thirty-three Midlands players picked for soccer all-star games
The River Bluff and Blythewood soccer programs placed 10 players on the high school all-star soccer rosters released Tuesday.
In all, 31 Midlands players and seven coaches were picked for either the Clash of the Carolinas or North-South All-Star games.
The nationally-ranked Gator boys had two players, Connor Deany and Ben Freiburger, picked for the Clash of the Carolinas, which features the top seniors from South Carolina against their counterparts from North Carolina. Other Midlands boys picked were Brookland-Cayce’s Dominik Byars, Chapin’s Smith Dawsey, Blythewood’s Liam Murphy and A.C. Flora goalkeeper Jack Pondy. The team will be coached by River Bluff’s Phil Savitz and Blythewood’s Peter Wittig.
The area girls selected for the Clash were Blythewood’s Taylor Barber and Morgan Cordier, Chapin’s Jordan Dawsey, Dreher’s Kendall DeBerry, Lexington’s Maddy Goodman and Dutch Fork’s Emily Jermstad. The team will be coached by Dreher’s David Kleinfelder and Dutch Fork’s Mike Mauldin.
The Clash of the Carolinas will be held on July 9 at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh.
The North-South All-Star game will be held on June 18 in Rock Hill and will feature 20 players from the Midlands. Playing for the North team in the boys’ matchup will be Blythewood’s Justin Germano and Adam Haltiwanger, Dreher’s Evan Phillips and Cole Gaston in addition to Mid-Carolina’s Jose Reyes.
On the South team, River Bluff’s Caldwell Loftis and Russell Hammond, Gilbert’s Cody Duncan, White Knoll’s John Rowe, Brookland-Cayce’s Ivan Vasquez and Lexington’s Conley Waters will be in action. Lexington’s Will Gettys and White Knoll’s Tim Green will be the coaches.
On the girls’ North team, it will be A.C. Flora’s Allie Crossland, Spring Valley’s Caroline Herrera, Dutch Fork’s Kelsey Guard and Lugoff-Elgin’s Bailey Lewter. Richland Northeast’s John Mills will be the coach.
River Bluff’s Mallory Foster and Allison Glenn will be on the South team along with Brookland-Cayce’s Haley Harrell, Lexington’s Ali Rider, White Knoll’s Hannah Simmons and Airport’s Daisy Wingard.
